I agree. With the Manzanita 1.2 (big mid-tweeter) 25W was just enough in an average room. I could have done with a little more. The Ultra is a bit more efficient.25W and 84dB/W @ 1m will sound adequate for quite a few listeners on certain types of music source.
Hi John, Pano,
Is there an alternative for the GRS?
My supplier can't deliver it and he hasn't found an address in Europe. If I order it from Parts Express, the shipping costs will be 90 dollars.
Regards,
Russel

Hi,
Honnestly in Europe it's hard to find so big speaker at such low price.
Perhaps this one but 4 ohms, use 10mH instead ?
Conrad DYH 1530 luidsprekerchassis 4 ? in de Conrad online shop
or this one seems better
EUROPSONIC
Technysound - Ts38/300d Boomer 8 Ohms 38 Cm 300w 44.5€ free shipping on Amazon
Or this latter more expensive
MONACOR INTERNATIONAL : Nouveautés
Regards.

To replace the GRS you'd need to find a 15" with a similar specs, especially the Qts.
John can speak more to the sound of the driver, he likes it a lot.

The sound of the is the problem, a simple replacement with same specs could be not sufficient to achieve the same sound 🙁
This driver might be an idea for us europeans http://www.traumboxen.de/ad-audio/r1524.htm

PE GRS PF 15-8
Hello all...
The GRS PF-8 is difficult, if not impossible to substitute. Its unique combination of high QTS, surprisingly peak free rising response and general sound quality come together to work well in 2 way OB designs. Add in the low cost, light weight, consistency and reasonable build quality and there just isn't much if anything out there like it. It is a shame that it is difficult to obtain in many places outside the U.S. I will keep looking for other potentials and report back if I find anything interesting. John

POLARITY
John,
My ultra is coming up soon n the parts from pe is on its way to me. The schematic shows the polarity of the tweeter is inverted - different from the original post. is it the design to date ???
Albert
Please find the current MAS Ultra schematic. Enjoy!

Qts of post867 looks to be very high @ 0.74.
Would that make it very suitable for OB?
... In Europe the budget-choice for OB would be A&D R1524 from: A&D Audio Datenblatt costing 65 EUR today from HIGH-TECH-HIFI. I have compared A&D R1524 to Eminence Alpha15 and Acoustic Elegance IB15 which I have all three and the Alpha15 is by far the worst performer of them. The A&D R1524 was used in my: 'Volks-OB' without EQ and went down to about 40 Hz level.
Played side by side it is striking how similar AE IB15 and A&D R1524 sound giving a tight, clean bass of exellent quality.

The negative polarity for the tweeter is correct. The phase tracking is better and the current issue of the Vifa driver works much better with the reverse polarity configuration. John

Hello everyone,
How about Marantz receivers or particularly the PM8003 2 channel 75 wpc For the original Manzanita? I have a small office room with at least 24" from the corner/side walls.
Thanks!

Marantz & Metal
Marantz 75 wpc receiver. For most listeners, in most domestic environments the Marantz should do just fine.
As for heavy metal music, with 100 clean wpc available, a pair of Manzanita's will deliver about 100 db of peak output from about 40 hz up. Or put another way, about 93-96 db continuous out put at a typical listening distance in a typical residential setting. Suspect that is not enough if you like it really loud!
Hope the above is of some help. John
