Now that is just herecy!you're jealous, he's Having Klipsch Heresy IV

For those, only the Pumpkin is good enough. For the OP, a PM to MZM, and Bob’s your uncle 🙂
naah, that's too much, cheating territory
IP can drive Heresy's directly, without power amp
so, no go

All right, I see those speakers aren't the most popular 😛 Am always happy to hear suggestions 😉 (I mostly listen to jazz, and was in a jazz band for quite a few years. For that kind of sound, they make me happy, but would not mind trying something new as well! 😀 )
I believe the general consesus in the last posts is that your speakers are good, and that you may want to review either the choice of power amp, preamp, or both 🙂All right, I see those speakers aren't the most popular 😛 Am always happy to hear suggestions 😉 (I mostly listen to jazz, and was in a jazz band for quite a few years. Haha, wasn't so sure, I personally really like them, but saw a ton of very polarized reviews online, so never really sure what people think about them 😅I believe the general consesus in the last posts is that your speakers are good, and that you may want to review either the choice of power amp, preamp, or both 🙂
Input -> Amp: sounds fantastic (except just one input)
Input -> Preamp -> Amp: sounds fantastic in a different way (except for the hissing)
Input -> Preamp -> Headphones: sounds fantastic and no hissing!
Might just skip the Preamp with the amp, and keep it for headphones.
Thanks everyone!
The guys around here like and recommend speakers like you have. It's just that they typically pair them with simple, elegant, and beautiful sounding amplifiers of ~20 watts or so and ~15 db of gain (very loose ballpark numbers). Some extra gain with a linestage may, or may not be needed. Situation dependent.
I see, thanks!! 🙂 Am definitely enjoying learning about all these things a lot. So, all is good. Will try Zen Mod's suggestion of a unity-gain preamp (or buffered volume as he calls it).The guys around here like and recommend speakers like you have. B1 buffer, or B1 buffer on steroids and growth hormone: Iron PumpkinI see, thanks!! 🙂 Am definitely enjoying learning about all these things a lot. So, all is good. Will try Zen Mod's suggestion of a unity-gain preamp (or buffered volume as he calls it).
The buffer(s) take care of impedance issues, that you might otherwise encounter with just a volume control between the source and power amp.I see, thanks!! 🙂 Am definitely enjoying learning about all these things a lot. also beware that running balanced adds 6db gain. If you use source «that is a hundred times better being run balanced than single ended», according to the manufacturer, simply change the source 🙂

You know I can’t on a circuit/physics level. IMOE and from what I have gathered balanced signals from a balanced source carry two in-phase signals and therefore sound louder, typically 6db or so. Just saying it is something to factor in when calculating gain structure.clarify
I've build this board today.
Are the parts marked with red circles in the image below without polarity?

General question regarding R18: If one does nothing with R18 but installs a 100k resistor and just plugs in RCA interconnect coming from a CD player at say 2V rms, 2k impedance, would the output of WLS2018 be at its highest or lowest?
Experimental concept of Wayne linestage with 2SK209 and JFE2140 on one board.
That helped to adapt JFE2140 to ready layout with SK209 and borrow ideas from one part to other.
Too bad I have difficulties to find both locally but have 2SK170 that simualates the best of all.
So I guess I need to start making 2SK170 ver. with J111 on CCS.
So far the best simulation achieved with BD139/BD140 on Q9/Q14 and 2SC4793/2SA1837 on Q8/Q10.
Both is ECB or reversed BCE pinout (except BD139G/BD140G).

Aren't you supposed to connect the grounds at the bottom there, near P1?I've build this board today.

Next concept, now with 2SK170.
It looks kind of same but is fully through-hole now.
Q1,Q2 is 2SK170 (DGS pinout) and Q3,Q4 is J111 (DSG pinout).
Seems I can get all the parts needed for through-hole ver.
