I know, it's a tough decision to desolder the small 1364, but a few posts earlier you said the rather bright sound signature my be caused by the 1364, and I think, despite nice overall sonics, it's still a bit more on the bright side. That's why I'm thinking about rolling a few other opamps.
In the worst case I think I could order a DIP version of the 1364 to put it back in, if the other opamps are not any better.
Yeah... LT1364 sounds slightly bright. Someones says slightly "hard" which I'm not sure I agree to. First step would be trying 2x LT1028CS8 which would make the mid-treble softer and cleaner, add midrange neutrality, and make bass even quicker.

Yeah....language 🙁 (but you can always learn and improve, no?)Thanks, Andrea! I see what you mean about where to situate the cap -- you mean, down over one or both regulators, vs. on top of the op-amp.
It's certainly OK to try it... Anyhow, the LM4562 is not the best choice; to me the LME49723 sound(ed) better in the Super Pro, and most probably the LME49725 will, too. Best sounding LME (though I did not try that promising LME49725) was the 49720HA though.I have a few LM4562 op-amps on hand. I have trouble seeing the difference between it and the 49720. In fact, I think at one point, the 49710 was described as a single version of the 4562 (when obviously it is also the single version of the 49720).
Yeah, tried! It was...mediocre; plus, it distorted (@ 12V) on certain vocal peaks. I'd rather use the nice sounding AD8022, provided it still works well in the last Super Pro (used it in the former version). AD8022 and AD826 have around 3 uA of bias current, vs. the 600 nA of the LT1364.I forget, did you try an AD826? Usually, the worry with the 826 is offset current, but the 1364's is much higher....

Consider the new OPA1641/OPA1642 too... they look good for a FET opamp.
BTW, if I may... I'm really enjoying the DAC a lot with the Blacksheep Mars interconnect. I'm not that sure that my Audioquest King Cobra is any better overall; I really like the midbass articulation & the discreet midrange warmth, plus the clear unaggressive treble this interconnect provides.

Consider a discrete design. All op-amps sound like an op-amp.
If you have to use an op-amp, go for the good old NE5534/NE5532. This is the one most people will pick in a true "blind test". But since most people choose the op-amp based on the technical specs (And not sonic performance), you often see "racing op-amps" used instead.
It will be wrong to call NE5534/NE5532 good for audio. But it may be the least bad op-amp for audio 😕

Hahah, I'm sure you don't know much apart from the "good old NE5534/NE5532". So much for all opamps sounding like opamps. 😉Consider a discrete design. All op-amps sound like an op-amp.

I just looked at your bio, you don't know anything.

sorry to bump in with a offtopic question: I am really intrigued by my AudioGD HDAM. Its SQ changes from time to time. Does it permanently need to be in a burn-in stage ? My CD player in which the HDAM is used loses SQ if i turn off the cd player

Actually, because of the colon in the username, it seems it's impossible to view Andrea:'s bio - unless it turns out they're actually the same person, just reregistered 6 years later?
I have written no "bio" of myself yet, nor do I plan to 😛
However, I've had discrete amps and stuff, as well as discrete opamps.
Can you guys please list all the chip opamps you've been using? 🙂

Absolutely: I had the North Star Model 192 DAC, upsampling + CS4396 + completely discrete output. And I had a couple of integrated amps with totally discrete circuitry.Have you ever used an output stage that doesn't use op-amps?
😉
Did I drop all opamps for this? No 😉
If I still had that DAC, it would be a lot of fun to put it vis-à-vis my Super Pro with OPA1611. 😉
I opted for transformer direct out from the CS4298, and now I'm a transformer convert 🙂
It's OK, I'm sure they sound good too 🙂
LOL, better than good, a lot better 😛
I'm also very happy with my opamps 🙂

Can you please tell us what transformer you have exactly used (type, brand, size), and do you know if the same transformer would be suitable for the CS4398?
Thanks!

Sorry for the typo, I have the CS4398 🙂
The transformers are from Cinemag CMOQ-2H
The 'H" indicates the Hi-Nickel version 80% Nickel
Lots of us in the thread here using transformers.
This is what my Cinemags look like
