Bart - I will take a look at your list. It is from Strassacker: Lautsprecher - Boxen - Selbstbau - correct?
Pano, units have arrived and I can see what you mean about Peerless. Thanks for the information 🙂
About Vifa. Is it critical to flash mount it ? It is not that easy to route it's shape.. Also, there is a flange in front of the chassis. Perhaps for positioning the unit at the back of it's supporting surface. What did you do with that ?
Hi Marinos, regarding surface vs flush mounting, have a look at:
Zaph|Audio
Woodworking is progressing ...
Material is plywood 21 mm thick. I preferred to have the baffle one piece and position the wings at the back. Recalculating accordingly, my baffle is 71 cm x 41,6 cm and the wings 71 cm x 8,9 cm.

My new main speakers will be manzanita ultras. Having sold off my jbl 2226h pi4 speakers due to budget contraints, only the manzanita ultras seem like logical candidate for replacing what i lost with pi4s.
Theres one area im doubtful on and thats manzanita's transient response. Pi4s were ruthlessly 'quick' with top notch composure and instrument separation even at the most demanding moments.
Would th ultras be just as effortless with elctronica, rock and orchestra music?
One complaint i had with pi4 was that they took a bit of volume to 'bloom', or to sound full, so to speak. Id like to know if ultras share the same tendancy, and if the peerless manzanitas are better choices in this regard.
Thx in advance~

Hi Bart Audio. Sorry for forgetting to check your crossover parts. Almost missed the end of the year!
Yes, your parts look good. DC resistance of the 2mH coil might be a little high, but not too far off. You want to buy a few resistor values for the attenuator and shunt, anyway, to tune the crossover for your room and drivers. That's R1 and R2. They should be adjusted a bit to fit your room and system.
Happy New Year. 😀

I started placing orders for my parts, and, much to my surprise, found GRS 15PF-8 on ebay with postage cost much more reasonable than P-E. It works out at 82$ per speaker incl. postage, and will probably work out to around 100$ per speaker if I have to pay customs etc. Do you guys think it's worth it?...
In fact, are there any "upgrade" speakers, that might work for the Manzanita Ultra concept? I've read through hundreds of woofers specs and it seems that the expensive ones pretty much always have big magnets and massive power handling, neither of which is needed for audiophile OBs... And none had the combination of low fs and high Qts that we need so much.

John likes the GRS a lot because it works well on OB, is cheap (here) and actually sounds very good. I have 4 of them, and would agree that it's a rare combo.

Don't forget a high Xmax also.
Try using bongous.com or similar. Shipping from pe is ridiculous, i agree. For manzanita ultra bom i got quoted $180 for shipping which is $100 over what bongo quotes.
Alternately, there's a guy who runs speakeraddict.com who says he can also beat pe price. Id rather deal with him in one shot out of convenience.
Speakeraddict.com- anybody have any opinion on it?

Uncle Leon... The GRS15 just happens to offer a some what unique combination of performance capabilities for a very good price in the US. And you are correct, higher dollar pro audio drivers are as much about indestructability as they are about making music. So you pay for power and heat handling not require in an OB design. Also, the GRS is very forgiving in the upper part of it's range which helps simplify the crossover. I need to take a look at some of the larger European raw driver suppliers and see what is available as a GRS alternative. If anyone can provide links to the bigger and better driver suppliers that would be very helpful. John
Here we are 🙂

Nice work! I see that "nipper" the dog enjoys them.
You're right, they are Sponge Bob speakers. 😀

Marinos... thank you for sharing your positive impression of the Manzanita. You have a lot of company who like this simple design. It has always been the goal to guide music lovers to build a simple speaker that.... for the effort and cost... can deliver a solid musical presentation. Enjoy!!
What about a skytec spsl15 b

$20 OB (per side) flat 50 Hz to 18 kkHz
I threw this together with Vifa and real cheap woofer. It is bi amped with miniDSP for XO. I think the active bi amp is less expensive than coils and caps in the end. It measures really well and sounds great.
