It works in the way expected. Very often you do not earth ground what you are working on at the power supply. Your instruments do that (ie: scope or signal generator).
Indeed, multiple connections to the safety earth will create ground loops or worse, but that is not the essence of the disputed message.

I studied the Luxman's -
most are a deluxe version of the Hitachi topology (below 1). The input stage is the typical Wolverine fair ,
the VAS is different (differential w/ current mirror) . Compensation is lead - lag + VAS miller (C707,711,717,719).
Close in THD to Wolverine - without the EF3 !
"Typical Luxman" is similar to the "Symasym".
(below 2) is a deluxe LUX .... .1PPM ! Add a Widlar mirror and the Wolverine input stage = lower than the Wolverine ! ZERO distortion.
Almost 15dB more gain margin at 20Khz without oscillation. The only circuit that can beat the Wolverine I know of.
Luxman does not need to be class A with that advanced feedforward 2 pole setup.

The bulk of better old Luxman designs (LV series - 105/205) use the Wolverine IPS + a Hawksford cascode - w/LED's.
The luxman series is actually a Wolverine "grandparent" design. Many of my designs were inspired
by LUX tech. They have some GOOD engineers !!
(BELOW) ye olde (1973) M2000 amp. LUX Cult following - same as a sonance 260 -20 years later.
I've run this on the Wolverine OPS , People forget ..... the Wolverine can run ANY input stage!

EF3 with 3-4 pair Sanken outputs. Most of these elite units are <.001% THD.
Similar circuit and construction to a Wolverine.
One could fetch $2-5K for a well built Wolverine. I only spent 250$ with spare parts for my
Wolverine to get a 2K$ amp. People underestimate the value of this DIY offering.
Stuart's monoblocks are easily worth 3-4K each !!! Yikes....
Can't forget the HAND WOUND (by a Japanese craftsman) 600VA trafo - (below 2)
Caps are custom (samwah - korea) 10Kuf 71V beauties !

That is what a preamp/volume control is for OS 🙂You would still have to be careful , you need something like ferrofluid cooled "party speakers". Acoustic suspension 500W woofer....
Wolverine begs for 75mm voice coil - 8KG magnet monsters.

If you have a look at the Stax DA-50 and DA-100 M, Stax did this also. However these monoblocks were biased into class A so much more idle current.That one is interesting , using big CPU vapor phase change (heatpipe) heatsinks to cool the outputs.
Luxman is only OEM i've seen that in.

Also shipping weight for mass production would be a huge cost saving.....Hi OS,
Marantz and a few others used vapour phase heat sinks. The Lux M-02 is one example. The odd service guy blew products up since "standard service position" was the unit on it's side. Those heat sinks must be level to work properly.
I don't like these heatsinks. In practice, the fin to pipe connection is poor, and the fins are not thick enough to be effective. They were less expensive and lighter than standard heat sinks. These were abandoned later. I think another reason they were used was to make slim case as was the style in the early 1980's.

Yeah , Q206 (should) go to Q205's collector. They missed some dots on the schema.aren't there errors in here? for example, looks like no DC bias applied at Q206 base!
Ah , don't matter - I can't afford the LUX , but I sure know how it works.

I think OS had in mind that the full potential of Wolverine would require such speakers and most importantly human temptation fueled by alcohol at some good party would turn up the volume a little bit and a bit more leading to speaker disaster. I saw and heard it.That is what a preamp/volume control is for OS 🙂
