Wayne's BA 2018 linestage

I looked into the switch. There is only one in stock of the one you linked. I get concerned that the inventory is off with that low of an amount. I found another switch that looks to be the exact same thing. The only difference that I saw was the "30S" in the model number. The S stands for shorting which both of them are.

This may come in handy if someone is ordering a switch and wants more than one to choose from or one becomes discontinued:

I use the Glassware frontpanel with Modushop knobs. It is rather rudimentary, and will have your signal wires running all the way to the front plate. but it really get’s the job done, no frills. Parts kit with the buy. Has three inputs. Only thing is I would have wished it turned the volume down more. Stock 6db values don’t do that, in my system anyways. Plus is that SQ is marvelous, price comparatively low, and includes both volume control and input selector.

myleftear, I ordered the one you sent the link of. Thank you for the suggestion. I really appreciate it!

I was very interested in the Glassware stuff but everything is out of stock. I will probably go that route on my next build. I really like their designs. The frontpanel is cool with the course adjustment and the fine adjustment for volume. Nice to have everything on one panel too with the input selector being right there as well.

The balanced boards would presumably null out second harmonic distortion, leaving the third harmonic as the predominant signature. I haven't built a balanced version so I don't know how noticeable the difference would be.

It would be a fun experiment, but the single board version sounds so good that I would approach it by building a second unit so that they could be compared, which would be expensive. I've built eight preamps over the years, and the BA2018 is my favorite. I wouldn't want to risk changing the favorite.

P.S. When I used to own a Pass XP-10, I would run it single ended into my amps which could handle both. The balanced setup sounded a little dry to me.

I have been really happy with my BA2018 build. I am using it with 1 set of balanced inputs and RCA single ended outputs. I was wondering if there was any sonic difference between that design versus building a fully balanced system using two boards?

Thanks for that input. One of the reasons I am interested in a fully balanced version of the BA2018 is because I want to hear how it sounds with the my Aleph-J which I built without SE inputs. I did try using my BA2018 with my Aleph J using an RCA/XLR adapter and it sounded terrible which surprised me.
