all good. of course nothing is kaputt. I connected 1 cinemas the wrong way (out into in)
bruahaha.
Thank you for tipping, though, hadn't I compared the pins I wouldn't have catched it.

Having completed building the BA 2018 Linestage Preamp 7/21, I’m astonished at how good it is. It’s primarily used to drive Focal Clear headphones and does so remarkably well. If you have any doubts, don’t!
Been busy building the BA18 and hope to give it a listen in the next week or so.
I have a few psu to try and I would like to use my Salas Ubib. I just have the one +/- set up...2 boards. Does the BA2018 respond much to separate psu rails for each channel.?
I also have ebay Studer 900, MJ VRDN and an interesting one designed by Miro from the AD1862 thread that has 4 separate LDO outputs.
I guess the answer is to try them all!

I have not done that, just 2 super regulators for + and - that feed both channels. If there is an advantage to having separate regulators (or complete supplies) for both channels, doubt I could tell the difference.

I first built the BA2018 with a single board VRDN supply in the same chassis as the preamp. Later I decided to try a fully dual mono PSU in a separate chassis. The dual mono external PSU measured a little bit better regarding noise, but I couldn't discern any increase in sound quality. I ultimately decided to go back to the single internal PSU.

I have used a Salas UBIB psu for one of my builds, works and sounds great. You need to join the grounds leaving the two psi boards together to get the V+ - gnd - V- the preamp board requires. Also make sure that the PSU build is set up for the required current which should not be a problem. The current requirements are somewhere in this thread. I have also built a version using a Chinese studer 900 psu, also sounds great, the one with the UBIB psu sounded only marginally better, a very small difference.
I am going to order the PCB's and the stuffing kit tonight for the BA2018. I know I can likely get the stuffing kit a little cheaper just ordering the parts myself but I like the DIYstore so I want to support them.
I wanted to see if there are any general mods that have been made to this amp design and if I should look into them. I am going to use it as a headphone amp and a preamplifier.
I think I am going to go with the ALPs pot and the little circuit board that the store sells as well. I want to keep the overall project as simple as possible.
I can make a extra order from mouser separately if there are any key items that I should add to the build. I always need stuff from there...
I think I am going to go with Gaz's power supply as it seems to be the most straight forward.
Thanks!

I doubled up with everything when I built mine so I have a an extra PCB with the FETs already soldered and a component kit. 😀
The only thing I remind is that you can change the gain of this gem to your needs, by changing some (two per channel) resistor‘s values.
It’s buried somewhere in the thread.
Have fun, you will!

Myleftear, Nice! I am excited.
Gaz, I like how simple your build is. This is going to be my main preamp so I think I am going to do like 4 inputs and just add a headphone jack like you did.

Success, prototype in action. WLS started up perfectly. Muses gave me a couple issues, but all are resolved and it sounds excellent. Using VRDN power supply for everything, set at 18.5V, equates to about 17.5V at the muses chip. Next up trying to get display working without interference, deciding on input switching and box it up.

Does anyone have any good suggestions for a signal switch? I want to have 4 inputs. I was excited about this one but it seems as though they are out of stock:
Select-5 Signal Selector Switch
I would like to just use a simple switch, something comparable to the one in the link. Thanks!

I like these, they seem as good as elma…
