Treatments for reversing hearing loss

Hello,

Sorry to be a little bit rough but the food w'ont repair a damaged brain IMHO.

In Europe (not the most advanced country for the tinnitus curing) we experiment neuronal "reseting".
Neurologists place headphones on the patient in order to activate the tinnitus, then localise it in the brain with Magnetic resonance imaging, and apply very precisely localized high currents in order to "remove" the tinnitus.
I'd rather have a nice big salad thank you.

Ain't no doctor gonna' put charged wires in my head. One wrong move with that electrode and you will be dancing the funky chicken for the rest of your life.

.. brings to mind that Jack Nicholson film "Clockwork Orange"

Even with all the sophisticated machines, expensive drugs, etc much of today's medicine is still experimental/exploratory, and the accelerating proliferation of the 'super-bugs' is making many health care centres potentially hazardous themselves - no country is immune to this impending disaster either.

Silversprout, Europe excels in treating hearing problems & 8th nerve damage, particularly in the alternative health fields - Tinnitus, Meniere's, Hyperacusis, Auditory Discrimination ("Cocktail Party") Syndrome, Autism, etc, etc

But take care of the side effect of the salad, fibers make farts 😀

The medical reports are absolutely fascinating... it's amazing to see how open minded and intelligent some people can be sometimes !

It is well known in the medical field that we are late in Europe... :faint: (for the tinnituses)

Taking another tack, can hearing loss be compensated for by using an equalizer? I posed that same question to Google.

Interesting:

The brain rewires itself to boost the remaining senses

Maybe its possible to rewire the brain by training oneself to hear better?

My tinnitus was caused by a JBL compression horn destroying itself about a foot away from my ear as the whole stage took off at about 7kHZ of uncontrolled feedback. Somebody powered up the PA with all volumes at maximum. JBL reckon 128dB SPL for more than 4 Seconds will destroy the horn, and my right ear! That was 25 years ago and I have lived with a 7kHZ whistle ever since.
Having ones ears syringed makes it worse!

We were warned : feedback is evil!!!

Maybe that is why we are diy audio, trying to find a sound that will erase the fact that most of us are deaf to some degree.

Very interesting but pretty old studies.

"The brain rewires itself to boost the remaining senses"

Like a amputated membre your brain is searching for the lost cells and the equalisation encourage it to search for them more intensely.
The result is a tinnitus aggravation.

Sometimes, a frontal lobotomy would have been a relief when the tinnitus and Meniere's got really bad - the Tomatis Sound Therapy not only relieved the problems completely, not just a bit, and the occasional re-treatment (at home) has kept me free of all auditory problems for the last 15 years - quite amazing

The Melb AES has been having a series of lectures about hearing, problems, testing, etc and next month's address is from Prof Peter Blamey who was involved with the development of the Cochlear Ear Implants over the years and contuse with very sophisticated advanced signal processing technologies in hearing aids, etc - quite fascinating what they can do in this area.

It's been estimated that 'hearing loss' in Australia costs over $12b annually - yep, that billion, not million - other countries would probably be proportional also

The advent of the iPods enable longer periods of continual use, regardless of the volume and the French (and European) laws capping the auditory 100dB limit doesn't include the much higher compression levels, etc that can easily be achieved with dsp music sources - naturally, hearing damage is accelerating alarmingly, especially in the younger generation

I have found that the higher the quality of a headphone system enables extended periods of listening without fatigue (at reasonable levels, naturally) even with the wider dynamic range of digital sources - but not MP3, as you'd expect.

... for now.

Whenever I see numbers like that I'm always dubious.. Usually when you do manage to dig in and find out where they come from you find some outrageous assumptions, or similar statistical chicanery.....
