Nice stuff, I had a plan in past to build these because I had dipoles before who did so well.

I think about the goldman 18 inch woofer who has qts of 0,65 But I have heart for this system
you made here I need higher qts speaker because it will go higher when build into such system.

I have now a sub and two pold phillips updated speakers who sound well.

I guess all completed builds are being listened to now by their builders! No one coming back with problems at all. Hope to join that group soon, planning to drill the holes that will allow the woofer pairs to be connected this afternoon. Then only wiring drivers to cross overs and putting on the outrigger feet to the cabinet bottom.

Yes, good crimp makes cold welded gas tight joints and doesn’t have solder wicking up the wire to stiffen it and make it prone to mechanical strain failure. The solder actually adds a layer of resistance vs copper to copper or copper to brass cold weld.

Funny I was just having same discussion with a friend of mine, she is restoring her car and bought a new wiring harness and was having more trouble with the new one. Inspection showed they used a cheap crimper. I had her buy a Klein crimper from Amazon with some decent terminals with heat shrink insulation .

Wow, they have quite a few. I am never adverse to spending more for quality tools. Three types I see. First is most expensive, is a crimper cutter that looks like a big pair of pliers. Link below.

Next, one that looks sort of like a deluxe stripper. link below.

I had a pair of the first ones and I used it for large gauge wire, not so on the sizes we commonly use. The second pair is what I am using now, and while my wrist are weak with age I feel if I use both hands I get a pretty good crimp. The last is for phone and network use. I have never cared for fancy wire strippers and have just used the v cutters and diagonal cutters.

I use the Klein J1005 to pre-crimp the connector. These will work as your only crimpers but they won’t make a full box shaped cold weld joint. Then I use the ratcheting box shaped die crimper to do the final cold weld crimp on the joint and the strain relief. That Klein should work fine.

I use this Klein to strip the wires:

Klein Tools 1011 Multi-Purpose Wire Stripper and Cutter for 10-20 AWG Solid Wire and 12-22 AWG Stranded Wire https://a.co/d/auxmuY8

Klein’s are great tools. Like Flukes, they will last forever.

This is about 1/3rd of my crimp pliers. Probably the most used though. Molex KK, Molex MiniFit, JST VH, JST VP, Amp RG-170 and RG-58 coax, etc.

Well, I ended up with these two to start the collection.

Now where do I get the good kind, heat shrink and so forth connectors to use with these items?

I going to look at parts Express and so forth, but I have a feeling there are "special" good ones?

Nice set of Kleins!

I am seeking professional help for my crimping problem. 🙂

I go through so many of the connectors, bags and bags of them.

I generally get them from Amazon. They don’t have shrink wrap but hard plastic shells.

I think I know the ones you refer of, my OEM speaker crossover comes with clear molded vinyl covers that slip on like a sock. Very nice but I don’t know where to get those. I suppose I could ask. Those connectors tend to use special double wing curled crimp - like the very large Molex or JST.

Perfect. Then I picked the two correct ones. Parts Express has a tone of fasteners for these.
