I tried the MosFet version with plus-minus 20V but still the distortion is too high at -70dB with a wide spectrum.
Something is wrong.
Something is wrong.
Even a diamond buffer without the FETs should do better than that. So I suspect oscillation. So, can you change the distortion by touching different wires? This could tell you where the oscillation is, if that is the problem.
I will put it on the scope and see.
I use the gate stoppers plus the 100pF though.
Maybe that is not necessary or brings even trouble.

Yesterday i remeasured your Kuartrolon.
I got -115dB.
That is my measurement limit on the Q400.
I also put it back in my system and the sound is great.
A lot of details and space.
It sounds really 3D without harshness but it is also not dark.
I really like it so i have a comparison ones the bootstrap buffer works.

I took away the 100pF at the gates of the MosFets and, voila !, it is working.
The MosFets do not like the 100pF NPO´s.
At the sweetspot of my QA400 i measure -110dB with a nice spectrum.
Most second and then 3rd, 4th and so on exponential decaying.
Under 300mV only the second at -110dB is left.
This is still the version with the lower impedance voltage devider and 270 ohm gate stopper of the BJT version.
It is also the starved version with low idle.
Raising the impedance in the bias devider and ramping up the idle i expect even better performance but it already works fine.

How much distortion can we hear ?
The text shows that we should take masking into acount but it does not come up with numbers :Golden Ears Columns - Distortion and the Data
Therefore i still design for as low distortion as possible.
It simply feels more satisfying when a circuit is maxed out.
That does not cost aditional money but aditional work.
Time is money though.

Cool 🙂
Now we have a buffer with super low distortion and then this :Experimental Study : Distortion - Axiom Audio
In conclusion, they state that the test was essentially a noise test -- anyone familiar with ITU-486 would have reached that conclusion before doing the experiment.
Here are some interesting facts about the ear and digital sound :24/192 Music Downloads are Very Silly Indeed
Hopefully there are still some of us that rely on the ears to determine what should or not sound "right"

No! I will 'STOP USING MY EARS' and sit at the measurement apparatus's installed, no more tiring listening just watching. By the way my Back CD looks great! 🙂

Sorry 'Back CD' is 'J S Bach CD' (stupide dyslexia 🙂)
