Ywh: here is a picture of my broken lamp. I removed it from the reflector. Lamp was broken into pieces (exploded), so I can't measure arc lenght. From these pieces of glass I can tell, the the outer bulb diameter was about 1cm, but this is not sure.
Both electrodes look identical, so I think it is an AC lamp. UHP 150W.
Do you have such lamps?
Regards

What is the difference between: JYd120/A.C and JYs120/A.C ?
I noticed only one version is sold anymore.
Does the A.C version run also on D.C. but not vice-versa?
anyone know?

How to determine what type of replacement lamp your projector needs:
There are many things need to look at. First of all, check the manufacturers replacement chart. Although it is not 100% accurate, it is the first resource.
1. arc length.
You need to check the spec sheet of the original lamp. Lamps with distance between two electrodes shorter than 2mm need JYd lamps; longer than 2mm need JYs lamps.
2. size of electrodes.
AC lamps have two electrodes in same size; DC lamps have one electrode larger than the other one.
3. lamp model.
JYd lamps replace UHP, SHP, HS, HSCR, MS, UHE, UMPRD(DC); JYs lamps replace VIPR,MHL,MSCR,SMDR. Others need to do some more investigation.
4. vacuum seal
whether this is a vacuum seal on the bulb. the vacuum seal is the bump thing on the ball part. If there is no seal, JYs lamps are needed.

Hello YWH. I have been reading through this thread. I am interested in your light house and a 400w bulb. I will be making a projector with a 17" SGI LCD. Can you make a recommendation for a suitable bulb from you and is this application appropriate for the light house? Thank you.
David.

Ahhhh ok. Is that still the JYs400 bulb listed on DIYpro website or a new bulb now? If it is a new bulb, are the specifications posted somewhere? Still $40 + $5 for shipping? When ready I will use the information you posted already to send payment by Western Union if that is still acceptable. Thank you.

Hi davidcb !
the lamp is like JYs400 bulb , but the distance of electrode is longer, about 7-8mm. it run in electromagnetic ballast.
but I dont know how about it in USA, your V is 110V.
Still $40 + $5 for shipping

Thanks,

Will it work at 60hz? I have a couple of 110 to 220V 1000W step up transformers. Where can it be purchased? Any chance of 18wheeler adding this to his site?
Thanks again,
Pat

What about this bulb?
Hello everyone, this is my first post here. The DIY projector company is selling this bulb
http://www.diyprojectorcompany.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=108
It has a the following specifications:
• Power Rating: 400w
• Ballast Code: S51
• Approx. Mean Lumens: 33,000
• Color Temperature: 5200k
• Color Rendering Index (CRI): 85
• MOL: 9.76 inches
And a life of 20,000 hours
and is only $49.
The downside is that its ballast is very expensive $250 (ballast + bulb kit). Is there a way to use an alternate ballast for this bulb?
YWH can you please check if a ballast is available for this bulb?
If we can find a cheap ballast for this, we'll never have to worry about replacing the bulb.
Guys, what do you think about this bulb?

Havn't been here for a while. There were some updates for people who want to replace lamps in their commercial projectors:
The manufacuturer has dramatically increased the price for JYd lamps, which has shorter arc. We no longer recommend it for replacing the commerical lamps.
If you still want to try JYd lamps. the new price is $85. $5 shipping
Jys lamps are still $42 ( including $2 paypal fee).
