@Pete,
no that is the only way to be fair ... you had the most trouble.
Don't you just love good people? What a great commuity we have here.

Hi Pete,
there is a little gift on the way. 🙂

They are, aren't they? Now if the USPS was just as nice 😉

Wasn't the problem with Deutsche Post/DHL? What was the issue with USPS? I must have missed that.

Well, first of all they only give you a 30 day window to file a claim. Since I didn't get my package back until after the 30 day period the website wouldn't let me file a claim. Yes, the German delivery services were the issue, but the USPS international services should have known about any particular problems with Customs requirements and never let the package leave the USA.
When I did get someone on the phone and commented that my payment was for "completed' delivery services they just kinda said they couldn't help me and try filing through the website (which I couldn't do because of the 30 day window expiration). German DHL services could have just contacted Carsten and ask for an updated bill of lading before rejecting it as well.
A lesson learned about shipping to the EU ....
🙄
I don't get it. I've shipped lot's of stuff to Germany and never had a problem on either end. Hopepfully a lesson was learned from the pain endured.
@audiosteve,
since 01.07.2021 we had new customs laws (in EU) because brexit, so something has be changed, from other countries it may be different and there is now no exemption limit for small shipments outside the eu, everything over €0 must be taxed.:-(
It it now now not more easy for shipping, before to UK it was 3,70€ and now it must be a small parcel for 8€ and paperwork (custom declaration and so ..), we tried a some time but all comes back :-(

That explains a lot, Carsten. The last time I shipped anyhig was almost three years ago and I did not have to wory about those rules. Thank you fot clarifying that.
Hopefully a lesson was learned from the pain endured.
Yup, use DHL to the EU and let them handle the Customs paperwork..😉

Nelson,I would say 11.9 to 12.1v
I know this discussion is about the V2 boards, but I wanted to point out that it was not obvious that you had switched supplies from 24vdc to 12vdc with the v2 boards where the V1s ran off 24vdc, and I wanted to ask about why the switch. Can you explain a bit please ? I've re-re-read the 3 documents and gone through the threads in the series and cannot find any explanation for why other that perhaps it simplified things a bit. I am hoping I haven't missed something glaringly obvious. Thanks as usual!
12v supplies are cheap and plentiful, and adequate to the task. You can use 24v by adjusting the values of the resistor/pot upwards to give the same voltage at the test point.
Ah. I checked it out. You want j113 with a higher Vp. I will be happy to send you a pair
(I have about 300,000).
It's not that it won't work, but lower Vp means lower maximum output swing.

Thanks Papa this is interesting. So if I have few sets of J113s with 21-27mA IDSS measured using a 9V battery pack on a DIY jig as you suggested earlier which ones do you recommend to use in this build? I have rest of the parts as is from your article except that the trimmers are 100R as I did not find 50R locally.Ah. I checked it out. You want j113 with a higher Vp. I go by the pinch-off voltage, with the Drain attached to +12V, the Gate to ground
and the Source to Ground through a 1 meg resistor. Vp is the voltage across that
resistor. The preferred range is 2.40 to 2.60V, and the Drain voltage setting in the
most recent H2 design is 4.21 times Vp. For example for Vds = 2.5V, the Drain
voltage you want will be about 10.5 volts.

Still want to try with J113 with Vp below 2.00V. ThanksAh. I checked it out. You want j113 with a higher Vp. I will be happy to send you a pair

Thanks Papa, let me make a small jig with these as you suggested and then calculate the voltage with my stock J113 jfets.I go by the pinch-off voltage, with the Drain attached to +12V, the Gate to ground

Thank you again.
Mine is built and ready to go. Can anyone recommend a SMALL quality encloure to use this as a mal pre-amp. Maybe with enough room to add a switch source selector and a pot? The smallest on the DIYStore still seem to big. Something more the size of a Schiit Sus for instance. Is there anyting like that?
Wel, as you're in the USA, Hammond MFG enclosures should be easy to find there: https://www.hammfg.com/electronics/small-caseMine is built and ready to go. They make all kind of enclosures.
Yes indeed, one of those shud work! Many thanks!Wel, as you're in the USA, Hammond MFG enclosures should be easy to find there: https://www.hammfg.com/electronics/small-case
