DSP Xover project (part 2)

I have been using my Najda board for quite a few years now with no issues. My unit only has unbalanced inputs. I changed my preamp and it now has balanced outputs and would like to input balanced into the Najda. Does anyone have a balanced input board they could sell?

Thanks

Alfredo

I have two NAJDA boxed units (assembled by Nick just before his disappearance). This is a beautiful unit with both analog and spdif output. Mine also has amanero USB input.

That's it

I tried it with expensive external DACs but to me the NAJDA's internal DAC and its analog output sounds already as good as it can be. I also tried exotic opamps a the usual audiophile-freak sort of experiments.

My conclusion is: I'm better spending my time to fine tune the filters... rather than wasting my time and money to improve a product that is already a killer product.

Actually I use only one of them, the second units was for my brother who then decided to go analog-active. It may be that at some point I'll sell one of them. If somebody is interested just let me know.
Dear, is the second unit aleady for sale?

SMPS. Case is compact and non ventilated. But this psu is pretty decent. Works better then on my other unit based on simple, linear psu on lm78/79xx. From pictures box does not look solid but in reality is the oposite way. It's aluminium and all sides are cnc'ed aluminium blocks. I'm suprised that price for boxed unit was do low compared to bare PCB.
Picture is for my unit. One from ebay has additionally USB audio board.

You'll recall the Najda unit that played fine for 3 hours and then didn't output anything, but the lights were still on??

Well, the owner found out that removing the lid upped the working time from a repeatable 3hrs, to over 24hrs / perhaps it never loses sound.. he doesn't leave it on that long normally!

He normally runs it for 6 or so hours at a time, and with the lid off, or raised up a couple of cms, all is well.

So, what could be overheating?
Could it be the SMPS crapping out on one or other of the 5v or 12-0-12v supplies?

Anyone any experience of this. What happens if you lose 5v or 12-0-12v singally? It perhaps not enough voltage or current supplied?

I've used Najda since the very beginning with a Mouser SMPS for 7 odd years, no problem, and then an external transformer with linear 12-0-12v and external linear 5v PSU for the last 4 years, also without glitch, with a sealed aluminium case, and with full array of Burson opamps (the big ones).

As Marvin once asked "what's going on?"

I already wrote this. For my other unit, not boxed with simple linear psu. When it's turn of on standby (with remote) it does not wake up after few hours. With boxed it happens too but after much longer time period. But actually had no problems during normal work. With first unit sound issues where sometimes when I was turning on amplifires, najda was hanging compleatly or on some channels. But for this I'm using power up sequence and turn on Najda last.

I get strange problem with Najda.
I use usually SPDIF input. For testing I used I2S with Amanero and after that Najda started to show DSP overload warning. I not changed in configuration anything else.
Overloaded is Core1.
After that I moved some PEQ-s from channels processing what are on Core1 to Input processing what are on Core0. Core0 usage was increased, but Core1 usage was not decreased.
Seems like Najda configuration software had not actually deleted PEQ-s form channels processing or left some load for Core1.
If I disable all channels what are on Core1 (5-8, 10) I still get on Core1 usage about 48%.
Had somebody meet similar, what had be solution for that?

I am looking at putting a second i2s source to my Nadja. The expansion port pins would suggest that upto 6 sources could be added. Doesn’t seem to work.
I have also tought about this same new feature for Najad. My ideaa is to do speaker driver specific FIR filtering/convolution in the PC. Then send the signal (8 or 6 channals) through Najda and use its DAC and volym controlls in a active setup.

But eaven though there is the connector does the resident software support this. I think not but maybe there is somebody who can find a solution. There is still a very restrict offering of multi dac gear and here we have Najda but can not access all it's features.

I have been looking at minidsp boards and the streamer seams to be something that would fit the bill. But will it work? Here is a link to the user guide.
