Another observation…when I use the balanced output from the Pearl 3 feeding a balanced Iron Pre I get slightly lower overall gain and need to advance the volume knobs to match SPL’s produced when using SE output. This is the opposite of what I expected. Is this attributed to the Pearl 3 or Iron Pre?

Hmmm... that's weird, but I'd attribute to the IronPre.

Balanced output in the Pearl 3 uses a DRV135 balanced line driver which has +6db of gain compared to the RCA outs.

My Pearl 3 (low gain setting, MM cartridge) feeding a SE Iron Pre and an F5m, and my volume knob is down around 9 O'clock for a reasonable listening volume. Not sure if this is helpful.

As soon as I hit the send button on that last comment it dawned on me that I’d F’d up the wiring AGAIN! Good news: the Iron Pre is wired correctly. Bad news: I had negative (pin 3) going to a via labeled “shell” on the Pearl 3 board 🤔🤪
