Wayne said: "That’s a nice build. 2018 means it is time for something new." I just want to be sure he gets the appropriate reaction: 😎😀😆

yay!

Right? I’m looking forward to whatever’s next as well! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Wow. The radio silence in this thread is deafening! The BA 2018 is still a great circuit
and I'd guess if there were an updated project, I'd bet my roll of Cardas solder that it would be introduced at Burning Amp in October. So updated new boards would not be in the store until...the end of the year?
I'm still building my BA 2018!

The current BA2018 will be in the store indefinitely, as far as I know...

🙂
I built this one for my office with the Academy audio PSU and the VCX module with Lenny’s App Notes.
It takes a 5V wall wart so I was able to implement a nice little illuminated push button.

Great news!
I'm sure the shiny new BA2023 will be at least 5 years better... 😀
Did you get the issue with the volume jumping sorted?I built this one for my office with the Academy audio PSU and the VCX module with Lenny’s App Notes.

I actually built two different Waynes preamps using Lenny’s VCX.
The first one I had issues with and was a fully balanced unit with Lenny’s BIB, BOB, and the VCX with only one of Wayne’s boards. I tried two different VRDN boards and both caused the preamp to sporadically jump to full volume. I swapped in a new power supply and I haven’t had an issue since.
The second preamp I built as a basic single ended unit with Lenny’s LPS9 and no issues.
When I first built my VRDN boards I used the TI devices and realized there were oscillation issues and saw new modifications recommended by Mark. I thought maybe that was the issue so made the changes and the problems continued.
I just assumed the VRDN just didn’t play nice with the VCX. did anyone else have the same issue? Lenny mentioned a few others having the same volume jump problem.

Great question. I never did unhook the BIB and BOB to see if that changed anything.
I ordered another VCX and will hook it up on the VRDN single ended and see how it does.

Remember that the VRDN board includes a pair of jumpers which allow you to disable the De-Noiser if you wish, and revert to a plain ordinary LM317 / LM337 voltage regulator. Install shorting blocks at positions J3 and J4 to disable.

Ok. I’ll experiment with this. It could very well have been the denoiser that caused the issues and I never thought to install the jumpers and see if that fixed it.
I will try again and see if I have better results.

What is the output impedance of the BA2018? I could not find it posted in this thread (which is surprising) but I could have missed it. I'm considering adding output transformers to my SE build so that I can use my ACAs in balanced mode. Thanks!
It appears I had too many search criteria and the search engine just skimmed right past that one. I can't believe it myself.
Thanks!
Thanks!
I have the same issue with the VCX jumping to full volume. I emailed Lenny last week and he mentioned there is a firmware issue with one of the components, and I should email it back for it to get the new firmware flashed to solve the problem.
Then monkeying around with the VRDN power supply is extremely unlikely to make the issue disappear.
