Wayne's BA 2018 linestage

Hi all,

A couple of build pics of my recently completed project. Lots of room in there - I can fit in another board if I choose to go balanced, or (more likely) put in a crossover.

It sounds absolutely marvellous!

I am not familiar with the Canare interconnects. But if they are similar to the Belden coax style Blue Jeans Cable LC-1's I just replaced, the cabling I described above is a real step up.
That’s pretty much them from the looks of them. A bit different but quite similar. It’s the connectors that I really like and those are basically identical per a BJC person. New speakers before I move on to interconnects. Then I think I’ll be ready to play with cables again.

I completed (almost - still need to extend attenuator shafts thru front panel and install led indicator on front). It sounds great, but I do have a slight hum that is only audible when not playing. I also notice the attenuator makes the hum louder as more attenuation is selected.
I will wait a few days then dive into the problem as the noise is not noticeable when listening to music.

I think you wanna move the attunator and the input as far away from the transformer as possible. And rotate the trafo around and see if the hum changes. If the problem is related to the trafo's radiated field these solutions will definitely help.

Rebuild in process.. quick and dirty mock up and sneak peek. Swiss cheese and ugly, but won't be seen behind my monoblocks. Just trying to recycle and reuse stuff from abandoned projects over the years. Purple boards will be vertical on the left side same as they were. Store Super Regulators tucked in nice and tight to the gain stage when it's all together...

I've been wanting to put up a few photos for a while! The project took longer than I thought it would, and was at times a pain in the ..., however, it's been running for about two months, and it sounds great. Feeding my F6, very clean and clear, a definite step up from the Rotel receiver I was using as a pre amp. Thank you to Wayne and everyone else out there for making this possible. This place is inspirational!

Thank you! No, the motorized pot system is from Bent Audio (John Chapman, nice guy to deal with BTW), it's usually sold with an alps pot, but I had the TKD 50k already, also bought a slick beefy aluminium two button remote from them also-just for volume. The input selector is the Salas I-Select, it's manual only with a lorlin 6 position selector. The extra hole between the input selector knob and volume is for the IR receiver (I really need to touch that up in black!).

Well, after a lot of faffing about with stupid faulty power supplies (a pre-existing one that I was trying to repurpose), I finally got everything hooked up and it worked first time. I’m as relieved as I am surprised. Not sure when I’ll have a chance to try it in the main system but at least it’s alive :)

I'm about to assemble the board with parts. Should I bother making step by step progress pics or is there no guide that can be updated with them? Gotta do something with my big girl camera! Any pictures necessary? Any very important?

Ended up finding decent floating 24v smps's, and in series they are a nice +/- 24-0-24. Probably is fine? But I will see about adjusting that to 18v regulation as per common spec. I don't know exactly what the board does at 24v :p
