TPA3116D2 Amp

I have a pair of B&W P5 floor standing speakers I wish to build a more power efficient amp for. They are 8 ohms. Never thought about 3118 mono boards. Could get 2 of those for each speaker.

These TPA3118 pbtl are so tiny.
You can easliy place them inside the speaker.
The biggest part of the mod is to change the input terminal of each speaker to a RCA and a DC power jack.

no...have same power supply with different boards and no noise. It's that old vintage ssssssssss noise.

Replace the pot for the lower value (10K logarithmic).... That should get rid of the hiss.

As for the turn-on pop, you'll need the "anti-pop" circuit - actually, two of them - one per each channel. That's the way I do it, anyway. No turn-on pops...

Search for "Giancarlo anti-pop", you should be able to find the schematic, and I also provided some photos in one of my posts last year, I think...

Hi ,

I've just bought a DAC with PCM5102A. Accroding to spec, the DAC doesn't require DC Blocking capacitor (Direct Path).

My question will be, if I use it with TPA3116 , Can I remove the DC blocking capacitor as well??

Will it be pure "Direct Path" then ?

No - the TPA3116 input has a DC bias. One cap needs to remain in place between the DAC output and TPA3116 input (unless you use a transformer).

Hi. I figured out a fix for the turn on pop with a delay relay. Im planning to use a 2ch 5V relay board to turn on the PSU and another delayed relay that disables mute.

Can you recommend a 10K potmeter? Maybe on ebay.
I also have the red dual chip tpa3116 board.

Edit: why 10K?

Afaik only turn-on.

This one from here is working for me without any pop:

Hi all, thought I´ll post some pics on the SANWU tpa3116D2 amp I just bought.
TPA3116 50W 2 Digital Amplifier Board PBTL 100W Mono Power Amplifier 12V 24V Amp | eBay

Haven´t had the time to test it yet, but thought it would be interesting to see if this amp is as good as some of the other SANWU amps that has been recommended on this forum.
Also, anyone got a clue of what´s going on around the mute input? Perhaps a soft start/ "anti pop"? Haven´t seen a lot of info on this amp, so any input will be appreciated.
Anyway, I´ll get back after some basic test.

That's a stereo board - probably BTL not PBTL which usually is mono. Sanwu makes good stuff curious to hear of listening impressions. Short the mute pins and it will mute amp. Good for turn on off pop suppression.

It´s actually both. You can cross out the marked solder pads on the bottom and it will become in bridge mode board (mono). I did do some testing today, no pop sound when turned on of off, just silence. The gain is probably set too high, because it does have a noticeable high hiss when no audio source is present?? No audible sound when an audio source is connected.

The quality of sound is pretty good as far as I can tell. It´s clean and not to sharp in the high frequencies, as some of the other class D amps I´ve got. Good response and are happy to drive a 4 ohm load. Overall pretty impressed with it.

Writing on the board implies a mono capability across both channels.

That's as far as I got. :)

....then I read tyhe eBay ad. One of the piccies there is a "mono" howto.

Thanks, that´s how far I have gotten too. If you connect it as the ebay ad shows, then you´ll get mono and full power. A nice board if you need both mono or stereo. :)
