TPA3116D2 Amp

I didn't remove all stereo parts yet in Rch amp and some things intentionally differ between left and right here🙂 Left ch amp had a defective 1nF cap in output, you might see leads and the new one beneath the pcb🙂 leads will be shortened, just wanted to be sure there was music now jeje "pock-pock-pock'' was all sound that came out, speaker moving 4 mm, loud for small part

Just curious, is this Hiamplifier's board?

Regards,

hiamplifier boards in PBTL, tested Rch board in stereo first. very silent, only little hiss audible with ear almost touching speaker, 25cm in front of speaker I can't hear it, sure 3110 is couple of times louder, I do hear that 25cm away from speaker(hiss) but all audiosets here are louder(hiss) than both tpa's. 3116 turn-on pop barely noticable in PBTL, was there in stereo mode, also hiss was a little louder in stereo, especially in left ch. Is that because AVCC is connected on the left side maybe??
I will only compare some shielded inductors, icecomponent and wurths now, they look better mechanically 😀 and will try filterless just before they are added to speaker (wirelenght inside speaker is ~1meter now).

This weekend I built a totally over-kill linear regulated power supply for a TPA3116 (black & blue board from YJ).
The sonic difference is stunning.
Now I'm going to build one for my 3110.

SMPS or linear power supply no brainier.
From this Universal Laptop Adapter 100W LCD Display AC DC Car Charger Notebook Adaptor | eBay to this New High Power Dimmable LM338K in 3 36V Max 40V Out 1 2 30V 5A Converter | eBay
good sonic difference. (red YJ 2.0 board) Try to put, at the power input 2200uF ... 4700uF or any cap, it is even beater.

I've been hemming and hawing over power supplies as of late. Have you tried both?

I have two pairs of speakers that I wish to power with two boards (my preamp has two pre outs). Should I get one of those Mean Well SMPS, which has the two DC outputs, and house it and the two boards in one chassis?

Several more. These were the better ones.

It all depends on how good speakers do you have and how much you want to invest money and effort. If you have good speakers and want better sound go with a separate linear power supply. More details, dipper bass... My Fostex fe207e reveals every detail. Some time it is not good thing.

Comparing inductors on a single speaker in mono is more difficult than I thought, probably because I usually listen to stereo jeje. The stereo board with only icecomponent inductors had remarkedly more bass volume than the dual pbtl wurth/icecomponent, in mono the icecomponent side has a little more bass volume than the wurth side, I think I must test 1 inductor at a time in stereo jeje. Due to added bulkcapacitor value and similar input caps sure 3110 bass output is more impressive. In high frequency detail the 3116's seem superior, but that could be decoupling/bulk supply caps related too, I previously liked the EKY Chemicons in a different amp for same reason, clarity, detail, layering of highs without the hard/harsch part FR/FM Panasonics seem to add to my system/speakers. My Primare CDplayer is exclusively Panasonic cap's so that could be reason too that another stage with Panasonics is too much 🙂

Thanks Lo_Tse, Octavia, xrk971, wushuliu, etc...

Carbon fiber is excellent for vibration control. The entire base is a 1/2" carbon fiber laminate from Dragonplate .

The 3116 board is also mounted on an second piece of the 1/2" laminate.

The rear panel loaded with jacks is a 1/8" uni prepreg carbon fiber sheet.

xrk971, the upper outputs are Cardas Patented Posts.

elb, xrk971 ...
As far as details.... nothing too fancy. A good transformer, quality bridge rectifier, caps etc..
I spent a good week experimenting with different devices and configurations.

I built the box for evaluating parts, circuits.... it makes a great integrated amp though. 🙂

Carbon fiber can also be good at suppressing RFI as it is conductive - but the whole box needs to be made of it like a Faraday cage. Spacecraft electronic boxes are sometime made of CF for lightweight EMI/RFI suppression.

Good point! I'd love to build a whole chassis from it. I love the stuff... I'm using vdH CC-18 carbon wire on a couple of the inputs and these carbon fiber footers.
