Dang, that is a small 2.1 amp! It would be nice if one of those knobs controlled sub XO low pass frequency. $14.19 Yuan to Dollar conversion. Question is what is the Taobao middleman charge?
Edit: careful reading of silkscreen shows pots labeled as "Tre", "Vol" & "Bas"... no such luck on variable low pass freq. I wonder what the fixed freq is then?

Here's my red Yj board build.
Mounted it in a nice metal case. Quick and dirty.
Used an old laptop smps rated for 19.6v and 5 amps.
Problem, first time i ran it, the signal would cut at any mildly loud passage.
I then added a coule of 4700uf caps in parallel with ones on the board.
Things improved, but it would still cut out.
I things it's the smps's hard current limiter, but as i write this, i'm thinking this can't be right because even after i turn off thenpower to smps, the amp keeps running for 5 to 6 seconds.
Any idea about what might be happening?
Noting that the inductors and the chip run cool.
Does it continue playing music after cut out? Or do you have to reset, unplug/replug power to mains/3116pcb after cut out?
If smps is unplugged 3116 keeps playing some time, don't think it keeps playing if dc gets shorted to gnd by poweradapter/smps?. You probably have another poweradapter/smps? somewhere printer laptop wireless phone papershredder etc etc that has plug that fits??? Could be quicker test than getting 3116 pcb out of nice box...

question about the input impedance and gain settings.
datasheet says that the given values can be achieved within tolerance of the resistors (the 100k-20k-26db-thing)
does that mean that the chip detects the values and switches into a preset 'discrete' mode?
or is it a continuous relation following the values of the resistors?

The amp detects the discrete voltage via on board ADC and sets gain at startup. Gain cannot be changed until another startup cycle and it is discrete settings.
I've read 3 threads on these amps and don't think I've seen the answer I'm looking for. But most of it was way over my head and I may have done some skimming.
So we all know these amps are amazing and sound great. But what is a realistic speaker, watt and ohm wise that the 3116 will drive? It's rated for 50w X 2 at 4ohms I believe. If 1 amp is used per speaker does it double the output? If I use 2 amps can I get my 150w rms 4ohm speakers to sound the way they are supposed to?
For my case in specific, I am referring to the event 20/20 if it matters

OK, I'll give it a try. A typical speaker could be 87-88 dB sensitivity, nominally 8 ohm. Lowest impedance ~5 ohm. Hopefully does not present a difficult phase issue at certain frequency. xrk is probably a better person to explain the details.
As an example, I have pair of pretty big speakers (150 lb each side), sensitivity is ~87-88 dB nominally 8 ohm (does not dip below 4 ohm). The manufacturer claims that it is an easy drive even with 12 watt single ended tube amp. For sure, I can drive this speaker with the 3116 or 3123 to loud levels without any problem (and distortion) in my 13' x 17' x 9' room with the volume control below the mid point. I power the 3116 with a 24 V 1.5 A SMPS and the 31123 with a 19V 4 A laptop brick.
Unless your speaker has exceptionally low sensitivity and/or the impedance drop to very low value at some frequency (e.g. the good old Apogee ribbons that dropped to 1-2 ohms at low frequency). An amp with 20-30 watt rms power should be fine.
My 2 cents.

Here it is:
This is a HiFi digital amplifier board. New product for 2014. The board uses authentic import digital audio chip for amplification. Excellent design that employs SMD flow soldering technique for the manufacture, high reliability.
On their website, they claimed that patents have been filed on the appearance and circuit design of this board. This 2.1 board does look a bit different as compare to the others. No SMD inductors (as filter) can be seen. What is that chip at the lower left corner (cannot make out the the numbers and characters)?

xrk,
Actually, I check the Mister Tao (TB agent) link on the charges and it is actually quite good! There is no mark up on the price, only a 8% commission which I think is fair. Here is the break down:
Amp price (14.43 US$) + domestic shipping + commission(8%)+ international shipping ==> total 19.91 US$ with China registered air mail or 20.40 US$ using Singapore Post air mail (which is faster).
Regards,
Ya let me know where and how you will buy it from Taobao. I want the 3116 version but have no clue how to read mandarin/Cantonese to navigate the website. Someone mentioned a middle man, but still dont know who.
Check out post 2399. The total costs that the TB agent MisterTao charged is actually reasonable (8% commission on the price of the item). Follow the link to their website, they will tell you how you can place order on an item that appears in the Chinese TB site. BTW, I have absolutely no relationship with this "Mister Tao".

Amazing, the 15+ minutes of googling and reading on subjects that came close but couldn't really answer what I wanted to know. Thank you so much. After reading your postI did a bit more reading on the speakers I currently own (sadly just hanging out in the basement) and came up with this:
"These monitors are rated at 200W peak, 150W programme, and have a nominal 4(omega) impedance, though they're efficient enough at 88dB@1 Watt @ 1m that you could monitor quite loudly with an amplifier as low as 50 Watts per channel, or even less. Because loudspeakers often dip below their nominal impedance at certain frequencies, it is essential to use a good-quality amplifier, one that is rated to handle 4(omega) loads or lower"
Thanks so much lo tse

I did the "leg work" and found that for the 3116 that you want: :
amp price (7.54 US$) + domestic shipping + commission (8%) + international shipping (to Canada) ==> total 12.47 using China Post Registered Air Mail or 12.96 US$ using Singapore post Air Mail.
Wow, that is pretty cheap. How the heck can they charge so little for the international shipping??
Anyway, please double check on Mister Tao website to confirm the prices.

It depends on what peak SPL you need. If you will use it as studio monitor in nearfield, max 105dB should be enough. Assuming it is a 85dB efficient speaker then you need 20dB more from 1 watt nominal or 10 watts. Obviously the tpa3116 can hit 10 watts no problem. That is about 9 volts rms into 8 ohms speakers. If you need 105 dB at 4 m away then that is 16x more or 160 watts and now this amp cannot deliver and the speakers can't either because it would mean they need to make 130dB at 1m. Hope that helps.

Correction. I goof up the calculation. The international shipping cost is actually fair bit higher. Please check the Mistertao.com to work out the revised cost if you are interested.
