I have to say, the APT-50 results looks pretty good, and a simple XO design is nice as it costs less to build.

Are your surrounds a lot closer to listening spot than three front speakers? If yes, they should be smaller i.e. less directional (read: use Beta-8CX or even smaller if you have for example Beta-12CX in front channels).
You can compensate the delay in the surround amp and virtually move surround further. Then all sounds from all speakers arrive at right time. BUT! You cannot make a speaker less directional with amp's adjustments. And if your surround speakers are too directive and close to you, you get more direct sound from them (comapred to room reflections) than from front channels.

My surrounds are definitely closer than the main L/C/R's. My main speakers are constant directivity speakers (JBL 15" 2226H woofer and B&C DE250 CD on a 90° H x 40° V bi-radial horn). The Beta-10CX's are significantly less directional so should be good on that end.

I am using the ASD1001. I used the APT50 for years and liked it but was never 100% pleased. The ASD1001 is just fine provided you a) deal with the response curve that rises with decreasing frequency b) drive direct from the amp with blocking cap and active crossover OR deal with the fundamental resonance.
did Eminence ever get their APT50 fixed to work as well as the first model? ASD1001 is a good coaxial HF driver. Beta10cx in a Karlson or Karlsonator can be the mains/front speaker.

Now that Parts Express is stocking the entire Celestion compression driver line including some nice screw on drivers, I might have to re-explore the Beta 10 idea and leave the Tannoys for the house whenever I get that going.

I ended up getting the PSD2013S CD, it is supossed to be a drop in replacement for the 2002 but is several dB more sensitive (108.5 vs 105). I also ordered L-Pads to bring the levels down to that of the Beta 10-CX. Once dialed in will measure and replace with fixed resistors.
Would it help if we fill in the space around the voice coil top edge/cone to reduce the transition step with foam or something similar. Is that 'severe step' as bad on the real driver as in the drawing? How much does it audibly affect the performance ?
I am planning on a test of felt glued around the horn-cone transition for the 8" (maybe layered, maybe one thick piece, we'll see). The cabinet is assembled (and judged unacceptable without driver mods by me), but I can't promise it's coming very soon. I have a pair of CX10's that have not yet been put into action. It is supposed to work with a Kilomax18 on a small baffle. Have not yet tested them together though the 18 inch measured reasonably well in the room.
I wish I could finish it fast but things keep tripping up the project.
I'm very reluctant currently to remove the dust cover of the CX10. Better I try it out stock and then experiment with that later.
Do we get PU foaming agent in tubes ? Hope some PU foam experts can help us here.

One of the German sites did some playing around with the former and trimming it back. I don't think it was a HUGE difference, but it did make a difference.
