OK, so it doesn't seem to be a ground loop.
Do you get any extra noise with your long and crazy "loop eliminator"?
Just wondering if the noise is being picked up in the signal cable.

Do you hear any of the noise with he signal line ot connect to the amp? In other words, could it be coming down the power line?

Here are a few things to try:

1) Run the CD player from the 12V battery and convertor, but power the amp with AA.
Still got noise? Then it is probably the convertor.

2) Try gounding the whole rig. Just connect the negative line to ground some where. Also, Is the amp case connected to signal ground?

3) Move the signal cable around. Near the convetor, near the CD, near the amp.
Does it pick up noise?

Sure hope you can find it.

BTW, love the case! I might just have to try it.

Re: For those who have heavy mods in mind ...

Hi everybody,
my humble suggestion for those who would like to make heavy modifications to their 5066 t-amp ....

I bought it after burning my t-amp with my solder iron. For me it's almost impossible to make reliable solderings and desolderings on such tiny resistors without actually buring them, but maybe it's me ...

Hope this helps somebody.

anyone know if the Cold Heat Solder, http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/tools/69d3/ can be used to modify t-amp?

thanks,

:whazzat: WOW! A new world is araising as a 20 years slumber of my HIFIneard pard of my brain finally ends.

Seems like its possible with just a small amount of electronics knowledge (but lots of interest) to create some great stuff hehre. My Accuphase E202 from 1979 might have to start to count it´s final days of servicing me.

Got stuck T-amp yesterdaymorning and have hardly left the computer since despite the fantastic autum weather up here in sweden.

To start with: A question to all You guys in Europe dealing with theese things - were do You get them to reasonable prices? Eather there are good prices and no shipping to europe/sweden, good prices and scrappy shipping condiscions ($70 for two SI T-amps) or lousy prices and sheap hipping (swedish venors)

Please help me getting into this interesting new world!

Got tired of waiting and looking for a good europena place to buy them, and bought two from a Swedish vendor for something like €50 plus carrige.

Connected one them to a OPus 3 Swedish fairly natural sounding speaker in my oldest (14) sons room. It sounded dreadful. Connected the other one to a couple of Voight horn speakers (built 3 Years ago just because I had crossed the right type of elements and had a day of) in my mid (12) sons room. Sounde dreadful again.

Both set were sounding sticky, flat and with no base play at all. Vaste of money I thought. And what do You tell your boys - this sounds like **** but You have to like it because everyone else doues.

Well, after playing for a number of hours the sound a lot better. But even with both of the speaker sets having fairly good basplay there is no base at all - and I´m not a "baseman" looking for bumpy sound. So I can really se what You mean with - You have to do modifications....

My next step - try to find the best beginner solution among the 400 (seems like it) pages that deals with this subject to make it a full range amplifier. . . ..

Any suggestions?

And at the same time i will buy and build one NCD1 amplifier from Lars Clausen (former LCAudio) for my own Thiel speakers.

I'd recommend Panomaniac's site:
http://www.michael.mardis.com/sonic/start.html

To recap some of Panomaniac's findings in short, the input caps are eating bass, and the default power-supply is a limiting factor as well. The power "tank" caps are also a good candidate for replacement. Most of this is pretty manageable soldering, it seems.

Tank You Kristleifur and all the rest for Your help, i really appr it.
But.... now I got two different places that doesn´t really say the same things about how to do this.

http://www.michael.mardis.com/sonic/start.html
- great page simple and easy.

- Motherone:s first note in this area as far as I could se in a very long and active link.

Does anyone know the compromize between theese two?

I also run into an Italian site that had some very nice aluminum cases from a company called Galaxy. Looks great and very well priced. Anyone know vere to get them closer to the archtic circle?

The connector pin-outs in the motherone post#1 are wrong; it's corrected way down the thread (and Mr Mardis has it right).

Thank You again!
So it finally seems to be Mr Mardis quite easily done corrections that's gonna make it. Sound great for a DIYnewbi . . . . If it isn't anyone else friendly soul that could confuse me with some other great stuff to do. . . .
