Something to lighten the mood

Cal, by some notation schemes the last day this year will be 12/31/23

We’ve been vacationing in Montreal for about the past week, and had a couple of days at 27 -28C, which is about the same as Bermuda where we’re headed this Wednesday for our annual trip to spend some time with our daughter.
Oh, yeah, something to lighten the mood?

Chris, you're right about the ink jet printer.
I thought it would be appropriate to print that out and put it on the printer for my wife to see.
After resetting the erroneous "out of paper" message 3 times, it finally complied. It appears that the color cartridge need changing now.

Don’t get me started on ink jet printers. I’ve wanted to throw Epson’s across the room. One that I bought (for work no less) ran out, and redirected you to their page to buy cartridges every time I tried to print - even before I could switch printers to the network one. Wouldn’t let me out of the loop, unless I pressed “buy now” or cancelled the job. That driver got DELETED immediately and the printer sat collecting dust for years.

Never actually owned an ink net at home, and rather like some DIY speaker builders can do, I’ve ended up with a total of 3 lasers; Xerox 6027 colour workcentre, Xerox Phaser B/W and Samsung CLP360. Recently ran into the “fuser error” message on the latter, so even though the print utilities see the device, it hits the brick wall, and a quick search for replacements tells me I’m looking at more for the fuser than I remember paying for the damned thing in the first place. And to add insult to injury, Samsung’s printer business was sold to HP. While I can fondly remember one of their almost indestructible laser printers from the early 2000s, I wouldn’t give them the time of day if I had any say about the matter. Had a succession of Brothers at work and quite liked them as well.
The Xerox 6027 is a pretty darned nice machine; the clone 4 colour cartridge pack I bought from the big A last year was less than a single black with official X branding, and so far it’s not suffered from that.
But I digress.

In the VRBO we’re staying at the list of accessible WiFi networks includes all the suites in the building, 3 printers - one of which is not password secured 😵 - four restaurants across the street and around the corner* one iPhone hot spot that is not either of ours, plus at least half a dozen others.
* here’s a challenge for ya - try to walk three blocks in Old Town Montreal - particularly Rue St Paul, or Place Jacques Cartier - without stumbling across 4 pubs/bistros or steak houses; while I’ve seen a McD and A&W on our walkabouts, so far no Starbucks, and yet not a bad cup of coffee or Americano 🤔

Toner refill laser type 88 HP is 2.5 USD, the guy takes five minutes, he opens it up, puts the powder, and fits it all back.
Drum, $2, if needed.
We do not like throwing stuff in the trash.

Rebuilt laser cartridge, $5, they give 50 cents for your old one, which is refurbished, filled up, and sold for $5.
Original HP goes for about $50 new, they have their fans as well, claim is more and better prints.
We even get ink bottles for filling ink jets (with syringes), about 4 x 20 ml was about $6.
And a 200 ml bottle of non fade black ink was about $5.

We also get 'equivalent' cartridges, sometimes HP /Canon / Epson has stopped their production, for old models, so you have to make do...

Converted to continuous ink system years ago and wouldn't go back to cartridges.
Unfortunately, the system still needs chipped dummy cartridges connected to the tank by ribbon piping.
These are resettable and the damn printer will still stop mid print, tell you a cartridge needs resetting.
Pop it out and immediately back in to reset.
If it's a double side print it will not print the second side, print has to be resent.
Most of my printing is single sided on the plain back of letters, bank statements, bills, whatever paper I can reuse.
