Schade Common Gate (SCG) Preamp

You could wire from the RCA jacks or the PCB. Just don’t use both at the same time. Also, 70 ohms is difficult to drive and the bass will be rolled off quite a bit. Hang for another week. pCBs are coming for the buffer. Then you can drive anything. You can also build it on a breadboard. See schematic and instructions here.

Here's where it is at right now. Schematic done, layout done. Just have to route traces. The PCB will fit the old one so that it could be stacked. However, the heatsinks will be quite tall and may not fit the chassis for height. I tried the layout various ways, but if it is going to be stacked, this seems like the only way it would work.

The plan is to score the PCB down the middle in the vertical direction, which allow it to be split into two parts and provide more flexibility for layout in the chassis.

The other update is the main circuit itself. I want to post the update but want to make sure it it is fairly universal and need to do some more testing.

Rahul, you are the best! Don’t let me rush you, do your best. I’ll get a new enclosure if necessary.

Based on my experience with the unbufferred version, I think this has the potential to be the one amplifier that covers all my snowflakes from 33R to 333R and from 83.5db to 104db at 1mW. No pressure. 😂🤣😮‍💨

Hi Eric, this is a buffer after the SCG for driving headphones. Turns out it can drive speakers just as well. Also, it isolates the gain device from the outside world. This allows more flexibility with the SCG circuit and has resulted in big improvements. I am laying out a new SCG and plus driver PCB next.

Will add about the design, designer, etc. Thanks!

SCG is ready and I did some measurements. My PC oscilloscope can’t measure below 0,1% or -85dB, so that result (Rg 1k) without load is good. 20k square wave is awesome. Now SCG, with Rg 2k, is hooked up to F4 and to sensitive speakers playing very pleasing. Detailed and a bit lush is da ****. I like it a lot! As you can se SCG is wired as linestage with Turtle Iron Pumpkin handling volume. With 3u the SCG has the place for a buffer 😉

Now I must go through a serious amount of albums, again. 🙂

And the cats are pleased that the cat shelf is restored. They found out that tubes are not a cats best friend.

A lazy singing bush lurking around the corner.

Big thanks to ra7!!
