Home theater use?

I am planning to build a dedicated home theater with the size of about 5m x 9m. The speaker setup will be 7.4.4 or 9.4.4.

Would it be a good choice to use these speakers as sourround and ceiling speakers and also as LCR fronts together with a 12" bass active crossed over around 150Hz? There will be four dedicated subwoofers.

I would build the speakers in shallow enclosures to mount them on-wall. Can a AVR like Marantz 7702MK2 be used to equalize baffle step with the on-wall mounting?

Finally, will they provide enough SPL for HT use?

in case the on wall mounting is similar like factory iec measurement board, the frequency curve for bass could be similar to the one in sb satori pdf. Check if the 7702mk2 manual includes audussey graphic eqalizer settings for shelving filters which could massage the response curve for baffle step handling in case needed. These speakers are capable to well below 100hz and sub crossing could be even lower than proposed 150hz. In case 4 subs, I might try sub xover crossing at 80 hz. There will be the room modes (room dimensions impact) that will impact to response curve. It also depends what amplifiers you are using.

amplifer for satori drivers

Hello again,
Last summer I commented that I have the satoris (mid and tweeter) installed in a Diapason Adamantes enclosure. So far, I have not replaced the original crossovers mounter on the adamantes.

Currently I'm driving the speakers with Primaluna Prologue 3 Pre and Prologue 4 PP amp. The amp uses EL34 valves and gives about 35 watt. With that at my listening volumes I usually don't go beyond 9 o'clock on the volume know.

I have also tried it with an EL84 SET "Inspire" amplifier, (3-5 watts , probably), With this smaller amp, I need to raise the volume to 12... but it doesn't sound nearly as good as with the PP EL34 amp.

Question is: I'm tempted to buy a 300B SET amplifier, rated at about 8 Watt, but I wonder if that will be enough to drive both Satori drivers? And with a 845 SET?

PS: Another option could be active crossover and use a SET for the tweeter and a PP for the midwoofer... but seems too complicated right now. (more cables to speakers and need of active crossover and "matching" the power of the amps with separate previous.

Additional question: what amplifiers did you like best with your small sized (12-18 liters) "satorized" cabinets?
Thanks and regards
David E

100W tube amp works well for me. Also 40W Modulus-86 chip amp sounds excellent at medium volume, but not quite enough power for loud playing. My 15W SS amp clips easily at medium-high volume. My Satori speakers are supposedly ~86dB sensitive.

I tried my speakers on friends McIntosh 400W amp, it sounded great, blasting hard rock at extreme volume with no hint of stress.

IMO, <10W SET is too weak for small, low sensitivity speakers. ymmv

Thanks Richidoo,
What other amps are other readers using with success?
