This is from the guide:

Well, I have not forgotten.... been pretty busy and then the Macho XZ252 SIT has been taking a lot of my time.... trying to make sure it won't smoke again.... it seems to be working well. I do have some impressions of it in the Babelfish forum... needless to say, Macho has 20db gain vs Sissy at 12 db gain so that sort of changes how the P3 sounds in my system.

So, I had to listen to the stock P3 for a few days with the Macho System.. (a) to make sure the 8V diodes are the fix and (b) to get a hold of the new sound.

After three days, I figured I was ready...so I swapped in the Burson v6 Vivids in to the P3.

At first, when I powered it up I heard what sounded like a 3Khz low level whistle and the red LEDs were flashing... huh? I verified the cabling... just in case, I powered it off, unplugged all signal and ground cable, powered it up and the LED were steady. So, I turned the power off and I plugged in the cartridge first... on power up, the LED were solid... so I then powered off and then plugged in the line stage...

Powered it on, LEDs solid red... so I lowered the stylus and sound came out.

I ended up listening for a few hours. The sound is balanced from top to bottom (this is an attribution to the amp too)... the soundsage is wide and deep..

But there seems to be a slight imbalance to towards the right. So, I need to swap the opamps and perhaps plug in the P2 and see if this is the damn cartridge or something else.

Mind you, at this point, I'm really into audiophile nervosa.

The sound? Sublime.

I think the P3 is a mixed blessing though. The P2 makes bad recording sound better... the P3 does not. But it makes great recordings sound, fantastic.

Op amps sounding very good. Unfortunately, I don't have Burson V6 Classics, the store is out and the manufacturer is prepping for the V7. I got a pair of V6 classics but they're in the DAC. I do have a set of V5.... I might try those too.

But for the time being, I'm gonna keep the V6 Vivids in there and do lots of listening.

When I had my P3 on the test bench I also noticed the red led flashing. It was if P3 input was "overloaded". E.g. if I switched the small 1000 Hz test generator on without first turning down the vol. pot.
Good recordings sounds really good. I can conclude that the ADA4898 I soldered in works perfect. I can recommend it.
To buy records at the internet is a bit of lottery. I got a very nice Japanese Bach recording then I also got a Jimi Hendrix greatest hits (2 x LP) where 1st LP was quite noisy at the beginning (could just need a cleaning). 2nd LP the centerhole was too small to get onto the spindle. Never tried that before. Also the inner cover was paper without plastic. The internet company always attach high quality inner covers as a value added service. But it should not be necessary.
I will look more into Japanese recordings / pressings. Seems they do some good stuff.

Last night I finished my play with Freddie King Live... played Freddie and Eric Clapton, dueling guitars on Farther On Up The Road.

Not the best cut, not the best album (my 45+ year LP is in great shape), the vinyl is on the thin side... but the performance....

BTW- this is the same cut where I smoked the midrange in my ADS L810. Driving it to 11 in with a Sansui G7500. You know, when you don't so much listen to the music as you feel it to your bones? And then, mysteriously the right guitar started to cut out... hmm... the factory didn't believe anyone could do so, they paid for the entire repair on the sole condition they got the faulty midrange to check out. Funny, I still have both of those components... refurbished to original standards...

$450 for ~950 KwH.

One month.

Yeah, I know, I know the procedure. I know so many procedures. I'm good at following procedures... been married forever.

But sometimes you just wanna be a rebel (*) as in... Hey, today, I think I'll power the phono stage last! Live Dangerously.

(*) Usually without a cause.
