Watched another YouTube re. soldering SMDs, this fellow put a light coat of solder on 1 pad, heated it and when the solder starts to melt puts the SMD in place w/ tweezers. Of course he hammers home the importance of flux! Looks to be a good way to approach them if using an iron. In an effort to be thorough, once that side sets, 2 sec or so, he solders the other leg and then comes back to the first 1.

I did, but it's only 11 kits. I guess they'll be gone in a blink of an eye 🙂ou can sign up for notification when available on the order page:

Very nice.Just got my Pearl 3 kit in the mail... Markham Ontario.
Goodie. (and much more importantly... thank y'all)
I just got a duties and taxes bill notification from Canada Post. Mine's in Montreal so hopefully I'll see it in a couple of days.
@Dennis Hui
interesting. mine came straight through.
I'm not a volume buyer so perhaps that made a difference.

I have seen the future and it has matched 170's.

What do you mean? Those kits aren't going to the store? Not in the store kits, for what it's worth... Buy from Punkydawgs.
I mean the store kits won't have K170s. They will have K209.
There will be plenty of kits. Just be patient. Waiting for PCBs. I just received a LOT of PSU boards yesterday. It's all coming together.

Oh, now I see. It's all good. Any ETA on the kits? Even with a large margin?I mean the store kits won't have K170s. They will have K209.

Sometime between week after next and December of 2037.
Point taken 🤣Sometime between week after next and December of 2037.
Champing at the bit, waiting for flux and other stuff 🙁, due tomorrow 🙂
I'm hoping to have all parts ready to go before Pearl 7 comes along. 🙂
If anyone is interested I've made a surface mount version of pearl3 with some modification in the RIAA equalization, a subsonic/supersonic filter section adapted from Doug Self's Small Signal Audio Design book and separate low noise LDO's for each channel. It all fits on a 100mm x 120mm board intended to fit in a Hammond 1455 series enclosure.

That design could be wave soldered and easier to service if you put the smt parts on the back side and the tht stuff on the top
At the moment, there are bottom side 100nF bypass caps for each of the op amps. You're right that it could be a bit easier to build if all the SMT were bottom side
