Need some pointers for my first project

Hm I didn't think you'd like it but was just hoping so I don't have to keep searching haha. This size compromise I need is proving to be very difficult to meet. I haven't actually simmed smaller drivers to see what kind of xmax they'll need so may have to look at that, I was really liking the idea of an 8" is all. Two smaller drivers would be ideal but budget won't allow it for now. For me it's not just about the sound but also the aesthetics, obviously sound comes first though

Hi XRK, thanks for the suggestion. It was your monitor with the RS225 that really got me interested in the WAW idea quite a while ago. It's been my intention for a very long time to make something similar, however I have had a lot of learning to do.

With a Q of around 0.8 before stuffing, the RS225 only needs about 16 litres. I was wondering if you have heard it in a smaller enclosure like this by any chance?

No, I have not listened to it in a 16L box. I have heard two of them in an open baffle Z config (KaZBa) once and it sounded quite nice. That box was about 16L - but a totally different animal. There was some minor EQ'ing on this as I was using a miniDSP.

Rockin' the KaZba Dipole (K aperture Z-baffle Dipole)

I don’t know. Never directly compared them. Step 1 in th eprocess certainly does make a difference (3 successively less coats of thinned modPodge) .

I see. I do like the aesthetics of the enabled drivers anyway, I think if the cost is reasonable then it's worth it for looks alone. I'm thinking between these and the Dayton's in a higher q enclosure, something like 0.8.

That is interesting, I would love to hear something like tha

Another pair ordered 😀 (Alpair 7MS)

So are you making a whole new speaker using two pairs of 7ms?

Wow that looks great XRK. I'm tempted to try Heils for quite some time and this seems to be perfect candidate for second "compact" system scenario. I hope I will find details in linked thread.

Regarding L26ROY: I was right about new model Dave. If you open the old D1001-04 page it states in first sentence, that it has been replaced by XM001-04. Of course you can download old datasheets.

Good news is, that I was wrong about almost same specs. New version has lower Vas, so it will allow even smaller enclosure.

FRFT: if you are considering shipping and VAT on SDX7 from US you are almost hitting the price of those Seas😉

I’ll have a look. Still have a monster resonance (close to 15 dB at 3.5kHz suggesting some work plus an XO at least 3 octaves lower (~440 Hz). But now is relatively flat up till it starts going chaotic. Good for a WAW. Better, as always, if you can use 2 push-push*.

* looks like my work on using 3 drivers might have a solution to having push-push with a front firing driver and minimization of any bipole dip.

Than it was a win-win situation for both of them😀

Yes I was considering your push push strategy and I'm sure it could be the best solution for WAW, but its's true that those Seas are expensive, so I will start with a pair. At least I'll have an opportunity for improvements in future.

I agree about crossover point. I want to cross them as low as I can.

FRFT: I understand you totally, I also tried to find cheaper and reasonably compact solution. It was even more difficult as I wanted to go really low. Anyway I'm looking forward for your choice and your build report.
