I only use ebay for emergency, buying just a few parts.
Farnells way to expensive, others charge tremendous money for shipping.

Danico, if you want I can design another board for you when you will have all parts collected, also i will start to make the board for TDA1541 as I promissed, but it will be much easier if you have all parts collected so i will know the dimensions of caps. Anyway, if you like the board i already have for you (SAA7220) i can send it.

Its important to use really good caps for this power supply, I tried silmic's , nichicon's, some expensive SAMWHA, but the best sound i achieved using caps from Vishay.
I dont have oportunity to try the BG's, they may sound better.

The capacitor of 1uF on the output should be of good quality also,
Andrew, i tested the board without load on the output, thatway it was easy to achieve +5V. I suggest you to use at least ~15V. Sounds better.

No need to redesign the board. Its seems to me it can be used with the wide arrange of cap size.
As for the 1uf I have some nice ERO 1813 axial and for film cap I use ERO 1837.
I can see the size of caps to compare them with the BD's on the board. I have BD139 in hand.

I would like to try something a bit different, using the circuit you sent me. Some modifications with caps and ressistors, faster transistors also. Ill report about that when ill have a clear impressions.
About a board for TDA1541, i would like to suggest you a bank of cap's and ressistors, but ill try it on my player first 😉, I've noticed some improvements when im using a several ressistors in parallel instead of single one. I would like to explore about more. Also, the better design of PCB will improve the sound. If you have an oportunity to buy a lot of smaller value caps (good quality) it will improve the sound also.

I have tested it this morning, first at 12V/60VA trafo and it doesnt work all you can achieve is +3V at the output. Then i tried 22V/20VA trafo and it works perfect. Sounds really good, a lot of details, and space arround instruments.
You can use 2 of yours 12V units in series to get 24V, it will work fine.

The heatsink I have on PCB for SAA7220 is too small, as u can see from the pictures. Getting really hot. On that L alu profile i will mount a bigger heatsink.

More good news - I have found a series wired 20v - 0 - 20v toroidal traffo that I can wire in parallel for 2 X 20v rails. That should do it ?
It's all coming together now.
Have a hum issue which I've just noticed - it's not loud but my ears @ 150 mm from speakers I can hear it - it's annoying me and I'm trying everything at the moment.
With my spare CD Player there is no noise - what have I done ?

You can use just 0-20V, no need for parallel conection.
I cant understand you well about the hum issue, there is a hum on the uotput of your CD player?

I think it's on the output of the CD player or further down the line with the amplifier.

I have the whole system apart now checking my amplifier earth arrangements.
I am using a Lightspeed passive attenuator for Pre Amp, a pair of LM 3886 Gainclone monoblocs for midrange speakers and hf and large stereo dual mono amplifier for bass
I thiink the problem is with the Gainclones

I assume its ground problem somewhere, You need to check every connections from PS and also check solder points for cold solder.
Actually I have spent 3 days to find a problem and finally I decided to take it down to the shop. So I did.
They called me after an hour the amp is just fine there is no hum.
So I have no idea what fixed it, but now is good.
The ground wire were tied up and maybe when I put back in the case, that solved the grounding problem.
Good luck for fixing it.

If there is now hum with your old CD player better check your modded one. I think your amps are just fine. Sometimes the reason could be a dried cap.
Its maded in home conditions, and with huge efforts to achieve good results, still im not satisfied, but i get some experience, so, the next one will be better 🙂

I had made crap interconnects from CAT5 cable - NEVER AGAIN will I use that rubbish - it sucks
The insulation is so hard it cracks if it gets bent anywhere - users beware - it's not safe.
Back to the subject - the boards are just great !
