Those are cleat blocks for attaching the front wing panel. It's pretty hard to get the driver in there if the front panel doesn't unscrew. I think I only used 3 per side in reality. Of course you could always install the driver(s) first, and then glue on the front, but then the drivers won't remove easily for tweaking stuffing, etc.

RE joking - Uh ok, I often have to deal with people that are completely confounded by our system based on fractions of the King's toe (or whatever). Normally I make fun of it myself. Cubits? no, but we do use bushels and pecks.😀

The mile is a great unit, that is actually a "natural" metric unit based on 1000 paces of the average Roman soldier. A pace is 2 steps and equal to 5.28 ft. I happen to have the average Roman solder's pace so when I hike, I count 1000 paces - I am within 2% distance accuracy compared to GPS. What the heck is a kilometer but 1000 lengths of a standard platinum bar stored in a safe in France.

Got bored and tossed two tang band w4-1337 into a Karlsonator 6. Any chance of plotting this, I'm kinda curious what it looks like vs what I hear.
Dual drivers in parallel in a Karlsonator 6? I think that is basically a 0.5x scale Karlsonator (12in full scale).
It's internal dimensions are 11w x 20h x 11 3/4d. I think it was chrisb's google site I found the plans. They were noted as the Karlsonator 6 down the side.

That's the correct one. I'm dismantling a set of 2.5's towers into a smaller bookshelf for WAF and will have 4 w4-1337's left over. I was looking at some full range designs for a tube amp, and the Karlsonator is on the top of the list. Figured I'd toss them in a box and have a go.
I had some heavy cardboard left over, hence the got bored part. So I made a cabinet and tossed them in. Looks like something my 2 year old put together but sizing should be fair.ly accurate
Can someone explain how to calculate a slot port from a tube port? Given that you know the dia. and length of the tube.
To first order match the cross sectional area and length. The slot port will have a bit more skin or surface dag depending on aspect ratio so maybe size a bit shorter than tube but not by much. I use akabak which accounts for added surface drag.
Anyhow, I don't have any reservations about recommending this build. You will not be disappointed. For the cost of a $10 Vifa, 1 sheet of foam core, some pillow stuffing, and a $0.85 terminal cup - this speaker is awesome!

after hearing 0.4X foamcore Karlsonator with TC9FD, Karlsonator 6 prototype with L.Cao F6 (and whizzerless FE164) plus my lovely Karlsonator12 with Nirvana Super10, 12LTA and Fane TC250 - -I'm mightily impressed. Almost bet you never would have thought your creation would be a household (well diyaudio community household) name.
