Iron Pre Essentials Kits For The DIYA Store - Register Your Interest

So I'm mostly ready to start assembly of my SE kit. The case is here but I'm missing a bunch of the connectors ( ok all of them )

I found the volume pot in the thread somewhere
I need to measure the power entry module port - any suggestions on the part?
I need to look up the power switch - any suggestions?
Are this and this right for the rca jacks?

I'm debating what to use for hooking up the rca jacks. I have a bunch of cat 6 or cat 7 ethernet wire which is nicely twisted. Given the lower voltage of the inputs / output any reason not to use that? Is it worth getting the mogami?
Hi @bilsch
I bought the Modushop chassis pre configured for the Iron Pre. Here are the parts I used:

Volume pot: Goldpoint V24-10k. The 10k has worked well with my Denefrips DAC, Salas UltraFSP, and some other stuff.
For power entry, I used the Schurter 693-DD11.0121.1110. Note that you need to order the fuse holder separately.
Power switch for the front panel is a DaierTek Mini Toggle SPST rated for 250v and 6 amps.
Those RCA jacks are the ones I used.

Good luck with your build!

My Iron Pre SE build is complete. I bought the SE during the first group buy round, just missing out on the balanced version. I wasn’t very enthusiastic about building the SE version and waited a long time for the balanced version in the store. After recently completing the balanced version, my interest in the SE version peaked, and here I am with both versions to play with. I am exceedingly pleased with both versions. The SE sounds exactly like the balanced version. I posted my impressions previously back on post #4248.

Thanks again to Aleksandar, Patrick, and everyone else who made this great sounding project possible.

Hmm... I got the balanced version running.... one volume pot per channel. I find it very useful, as a true audiophile balanced control... full of angst.... is it too much to the left, the right? Is a cable disconnected?

Try comparing the SE and balanced outputs of the same preamp. I drive the SE and balanced outputs to different amp/speakers... so one source drives two sets of amps/speakers. Inputs are both SE and balanced. It doesn't matter what the input is, both outputs are driven. Either way, it sounds REALLY good, I'm extremely happy with it. It is VERY quiet.

The preamp is indeed The Bomb. It has replaced my teflon cap'd tube preamp in the main system.

I love how you can control the amount of Zen..... ooooooOOOMMMMM! The origin of Zen Nirvana...

Thanks to everybody involved in the project.

^ The Turtle is an AVC module for the Iron Pumpkin Pre-amp... I lust after the Pumpkin. When ZM says he's found a new source for the Turtles... I've got my hand on the 'order button'.

I've been out of the loop for a couple years, I can't seem to find where to order these from ZM or if they are available anymore. If not, I would try building them myself but I have a question about the original part number, AMCC008, are there only 2 zeros in the p/n or 3? I found the cores on Mouser but they are AMCC0008, or AMCC0080 and quite a size difference.

Thanks

what I'm using is both Metglas and Finemet, for Metglas AMCC-8 part name, while AMCC0008 is product code
lazy to check Finemet name/code, but same size as above

Thank you good kind sir! I am starting the Iron Pre kit soon and have been reading all of your old work with xfmrs as autoformers, Choky's WOT, old Turtle stuff etc. I'm looking forward to implementing fully the concept of SEP, thank you for all your work and sharing of this info.

Cheers

what's wrong with investing some time to find decent 10-20VA Donuts ?

I've bought from Toroid of Maryland before for a big tube amp power supply. I have items in service for 12 years from them.
They do make dual secondary toroidals, here's the master list: Toroids of Maryland list

This looks like the one I want: 602.182 It's $127 in Qty 1 which is expensive, but.... we are told we are supposed to buy American.

Also, the firm makes some nice Mounting Hardware. Check out the Omega Bracket: TofMD - Mounting Options ; Might be interesting to other people for Bigger Pass DIY projects!
