Yeah was good to see the multi meter NOT light up in this case LOL...still not out of the woods though, until I have a moving picture on my wall im still worried, im so careful with my LCD as I have read so many people have damaged theirs in the stripping process, but i guess these FFC just dont like to be bent too many times....
Guy..(or anyone else on the forum for that matter hehe)...would you know the number of pins and the pitch size of the cable I need mate?
Really sorry to hear that! I just hope its only the FCC.
So - let me guess, no screenshots in action yet🙄
😉 jkz
Just kick back and crack open a cold one
😀
not too many tho...

HiLLBiLLY, measure the width of the fcc and divide it by the number of conductors to get the pitch. You can get them here in Australia at Farnell but you have to have an account to order from them. Most electronic technicians will have one so you should be able to get one through them.

Thanks Dazzla I worked out the contacts and pitch earlier today cheers...I have called everyone I can think of an have been unable to find one, to be honest have been unable to find anyone that knows what a flat flexi cable is! I have tried various larger establishments along with some local technicians with no luck. I dont have a credit card so I cant order over the net with that or paypal so Im seriously stuck now unless I can find somewhere that accepts bank transfer :: sigh :: So close yet so far....
Theo Julienne from Lumenlab Australia has offered to organise the FFC cable for me through bank transfer. I will still be looking within Australia as the one Theo will be getting is comming from USA . Least I will have spares if I do find one locally 🙂
Was thinking a bit about Guy and his homemade aircon idea as I will need something new to occupy my time while I wait for the cable to be delivered. Since I already have an airconditioner In my garage and a fridge, I thought I might ad a little cooling to my workshop also but not too cool humans, to cool the other important "tool" in the workshop BEER! LOL
Came across this novel idea a young Kiwi came up with---->
Yup its a jet powered beer cooler 🙂 cools the cans from room temperature to 2 degrees in 5 minutes 🙂 Just what every Aussie needs in his worshop/shed...
Full write up of it can be seen here http://www.asciimation.co.nz/beer/

just in case yer getting ripped off...
mouser.com has your FFC in 3" or 6" length. From the picture you posted, it looked like yours is about 3.3" long, so you would have to go with the six inch version. (I doubt that would bother you!)
Mouser # 538-21020-0435 (Molex # 21020-0435) $4.42 US for quantity 1
If anybody else is looking for FFC cables or extensions, check out catalog pages 818 & 819 Molex FFC/FPC Connectors at mouser.com
I use the vertical SMT ZIF connectors to clamp two cables together to make an extender. Those run in the $1 to $2 range per connector.

Moving the infrared only
Here is an interesting idea. Instead of mounting the lilliput controls outside the box, just relocate the Infrared only to a visible location so you can use the remote control to power up the LCD and change the settings etc..
Half way in the link bellow there are a couple of pics illustrating this .
I wish I was good with the soldering iron.

Been there done that lol, i threw my buttons away and only use the remote. I fully modded the controller card to turn the light and fans on by remote too, by the one power button 😉 . No switch is visible nor needed.
Trev🙂
How hard was it to relocate the infrared ace?
There are 3 visible connections from what I can see on the IR button.
Did you have to extend all three of them?
Thanks

Thanks nick...really quite easy to get a finish like this, measure twice cut once, use 1mm aluminium sheet, take your time & most importantly buy a dremel hehe
The cable is another set back...not to worry I have another one ordered and should have it in a few weeks 🙂
Get some pics of your projector up mate, always good to see others work and for those that are contemplating a build they may get some ideas from it 🙂
I hope the insurance is sorted quick for ya bud, know what its like waiting thats for sure lol

Oh..Guy the cable I have ordered is of the 6 inch variety to mate 🙂 Will give me some extra length to play with this time 🙂 Was a little more than what you pick them up for unfortuneately but Theo was kind enough to organise a bank transfer for me so im quite happy to pay a little extra for his effort/trouble. I definately would have taken you up on your generous offer to Guy if I had means of getting the cash to you ie. paypal or a credit card...bank transfers to overseas accounts cost alot extra I have been informed so that would have cost more than the actual cable lol...thanks again though for that generous offer guy 🙂
FFC cable
As long as you have one on the way, that's fine. I just hate to see you waiting weeks for it to come in somebody's ship container! The most aggrevating part of building my projector was waiting so long for parts to come.

haha yeah know very well what ya mean there too Guy as you remember I had to wait for a second set of optics lol.... Theo said the cable would be posted in an envelope so hopefully it wont be too long 🙂
Be comming via AirMail Trev should be pretty quick...hopefully 🙂
Standard is 7days- 2weeks from USA to Aust, then a couple of days to you.
I should have gotten you one on express, you could have paid me back later
