I started piecing together a very very simple website today with the idea of putting some of my projector pics on it and a basic guide for anyone wanting to build a PJ similar in style etc to the one I have just made. I only have the pages and links made up at this stage and as I mentioned its very simple nothing at all flash, but I would like maybe some input from anyone on some additional content other than what I have planned that might be of use to the beginner or alternatively, if anyone has anything they may wish to contribute to the site I will gladly look at it and put it on display if its in the least bit relavant. to building a projector...
Thanks in advance for anything anyone may have to suggest or offer.

Cheers for the offer their nick but the site will be pretty simple, I'm building it in Dreamweaver MX so don't really need any coding, but if you have any thoughts on what would be useful to a new builder (as you have just built a PJ) things that have been useful to yourself for example in building, let me know and I'll whack it in the How-to etc...
Great idea.
I'm looking forward to getting started on my own 7" LCD projector, unless I find a 15" - 17" solution that I can manage the costs of.

I don't think the 7" projector will be much cheaper, than a 15" projector actually could end up more expensive .
You do a 7" if you have space constrains, or you would like the looks of a smaller factor projector and something that could be portable.
Quality of the projected image will be better coming from a 15" to 17" LCD than a 7" LCD especially in a bigger size projected image.. Although there have been some very impressive results from 7" projectors on here...
😎
Well, my main concern is actually the cost of the LCD panel. I see 7" - 9" Liliput LCDs on eBay quite often. It also seems that the liliput is easier to strip for use in a projector -- or at least I see a lot of them being done.
I admit that I'd like a higher resolution image than the 480 X 234 that the small liliputs offer, however, from the image samples that I've seen this appears to be quite adequate for typical movie watching. It's also of interest to me to note that some modeal (For example http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=67764&item=5745089797 ) come with a TV tuner, so an external TV tuner is unnecessary for a model like this. Also the wireless remote control ought to be usable on the projector, so I can hang it from a ceiling. Oh yeah, and I'd like to have the 16:9 native aspect ratio, too. 🙂
Speaking of hanging from the ceiling, the smaller size leaves more headroom, too... I'm planning on puting this in my basement. My basement is better than the average, in that I could actually have an 8' ceiling down there, but even then a 15" panel would be pushing the limits, though It could still be done.
I've just finished ordering S1005 the lens kit (And how-to manual) from lumenlab.com so at this point it would be a shame not to build SOMETHING. 🙂 I guess it'll depend on what I can get for an LCD at a reasonable price.

All these are valid points you just mentioned....
Just make sure your lilliput has the XGA support if you decide to go that route..
Good luck with your project..

And this is the kind of thing that I didn't know.
Until I read the above 2 posts, I had no idea that any of them were higher resolution, because the 480 X 234 resolution versions were all that I'd seen. (Okay, they say 1440 X 234, but that's counting R, G, & B as separate pixels.)
So given the higher resolution requirement, I can see that the 15" projection unit is in all probability going to be cheaper to build. I actually have the space for it, if I offset it to the side of the room, most likely over the computer desk...
And with that, I'll leave this thread back to it's original intent... Following the progress of Hillbilly's project. 😀

hehe all good there Supra ... this thread has strayed off topic on more than a few occasions LoL Which I actually think is excellent as it adds extra information (such as what you have just found out) For those contemplating and doing research for their projects. If you have the room and dont mind the final size of a 15inch PJ definately go with it mate as the final image is definately of higher quality at larger projected sizes. I don't have the room im afraid and building a 15inch in OZ would be dearer by far than the 7 inch.
As for the website I was designing I have a added a few pages of actual content now so i thought i would post the link for anyone interested to have a squizz at it...I hope to have it complete by the end of the weekend...
I have it uploaded to my webspace on my ISP currently, I will use a redirection service when its complete so I can change the URL name but for now this is the addy for it
http://members.westnet.com.au/aussiejester/
Again any comments, content or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
enjoy 🙂

Nice and simple, Kim! 😉
I like it! (see my comment is also short and simple!)
Didnt know you were into gaming and overclocking/modding!😀
...I wonder how bad will the connection be from Canada to Australia?...🙂

Me and a couple of mates get together Fridays and do a bit of gaming... I haven't gotten into water cooling, it's just too hard to find, but since the basement where we keep our PCs doesn't warm up past about 16 deg C until we've been at it a couple of hours, so far it hasn't been a problem. Come summer, we might need to do something, though (It got right stuffy down there last summer, and we've got about half again the processing power down there now, not to mention the upgraded video cards!)
It just might get warmer once there's another 400W worth of MH light down there, too. 🙂
Website looks good, it'd sure be nice to have all your construction pics collected in one place. That's a very sweet looking unit that you're building.

Computers were made wholey and soley for gaming weren't the bud?!?! HAHA Your telling me they do other things as well! damn will have to look into that haha Seriously though yeah the main thing my PC are used for is to run around and shoot people LoL I did meet my ex-wife on one it to but thats a whole other chapter hehe Connection from OZ to Canada aint too flash im afraid but I have mosied over to the odd Canadian server on occasion to takle the "Mounties" hehe They too frequent the servers I play in on in OZ in the earlier hours of the morning 🙂 I mainly play Battlefiled Vietnam & Day of Defeat (DoD) It's a halflife mod very similar to Medal of Honor. I started off as many have playing Counter - Strike and played it hard for about 4 years before the cheating and winging just got to annoying to handle. Have hooked old Trev up with BFV and DoD now too, we should get our own lil rumble happenin' Ancorp and i'll show you lilltle whipper snappers how its done hehehe <---thems is fightin' words HAHA

As with most "spealised" pc components in OZ they are either hard to find or ridiculously over priced compared to the U.S watercooling is no exception. Watercooling products aint even sold in W.A PC Stores...period LoL I have made the waterblocks from scratch at my mates engineering workshop on his milling machine, will have pics of it all on the site in the days to come 🙂 The radiator I use is a heater core out of a Ford Laser car purchased from the wreckers for $AU20 All up the whole system cost me less than 200 bucks 🙂 Works a treat 35 degrees over here and my cpu temp is on 36 degrees, she hits 39 after hours of gaming, thats in its current config running a small 400mhtz overclock. The 400MHTZ lamp in your basement along with you and a few buddies PC's will surely heat things up bud, these MH Lamps with a fan near them are like little fan heaters loL
Far as the website goes I thought it would be easier for those interested in tackling a similar design to be able to view it on half a dozen pages rather than sifting through the thread here to find all the info needed...well that was the plan anyways hope it worksout that way for everyone 🙂
As always thanks guys for your kind and encouraging words 🙂

Pretty cool site, like it alot.😉 I used to do the water cooling dealworked pretty well. But my best cpu/vga cooler was my freon chilled copper block. Man now that thing worked nice, got a 533 celeron up to 1.3 ghz back in the day and the geforce was just a hum'n.😀 All good stuff, but with the price of everything now just isn't worth the hassle any more so everything went back to a mild OV. Anyway good to see it's still alive and kick'n.

Yes a celeron flipchip 533 to 1.3 gig's. I built a vapochill ripoff and to use the processor at this speed it had to stay below -20c. Which it did just fine and did for over a year before the cold and heat expantion finally took it's toll. Here's a link to what i built and it would take a chip down to -40 with no load and never rose above -28 with full load. http://www.vapochill.com/default.as...=sideid&myvalue=14&contentSection=2&menuID=-1 http://www.tech-report.com/reviews/2003q1/asetek-vapochill/index.x?pg=1

Trev🙂
Starting work on a phase change unit next month Clinton 🙂 will pretty much be following in the footsteps of Bowmans work, the guys a freak as far as building kick a s s phase change units, I read awhile back he had a cpu down to -80 ... too cold for me ill be happy with -20 myself and me amd humming at 3ghtz (stock its 1.8ghtz) 🙂 Will only cost me around the 100 dollar mark too the most expensive being the radiator i will need for a condensor...will be fun tinkering anyways...As Trev rightly pointed out on msn, no need for it if you have the latest fastest gear (like him the baaaaastard hehe soz Trev) But its also the DIY side of things again, building something from and idea, planning, constructing it and then seeing it work (hopefully without incedent LOL) So if you dont see me about for awhile towards the end of next month you will know there WAS an "incedent" LoL and the measures taken to control the condensation weren't upto par haha Shall be on my new site anyways when its all said and done so you can check it all out there if you like 🙂
AHAHA Trev the noobie BFV player can be seen sitting on the machine guns on the side of Choppers hitchin a lift coz hes to slack to actually get in the thing LoL ... 😛 LOCK & LOAD buddy LOCK AND LOAD theirs a Canadian that needs a thumpn' Ozstylz HAHAHA 😛
