As Trev rightly pointed out on msn, no need for it if you have the latest fastest gear (like him the baaaaastard hehe soz Trev) But its also the DIY side of things again, building something from and idea, planning, constructing it and then seeing it work (hopefully without incedent LOL)

Why not get a later cpu and clock it to 5ghz like most other ocers do? thats my point on the matter. Still diy and you will have your temps even cooler then the xp chip, not only that but hella fast.

Semprons arent that much to buy, they also clock well.

Trev🙂

Also once you have a phase change unit it isn't like the other hardware in your computer it doesn't have to be upgraded but simply transferred to your next PC.(aside from manufacturing different mounting brackets) That said...lookout mate coz when I do have the $$$ I will get me one of them little beauties you have and give you a run hehe...just windin' ya up Trev 'ol mate I know you aint and dont care seriously about overclocking bud 🙂 But you do make one hell of a PJ 😛 Speaking of which when you going "public" with the new PJ I was privalleged to have a sneak peak at, hanging to read the reactions from the forum on that rip snorta mate hehe Have a few spare showboxes here it will fit in if u need them mate 😛

I had watercooooling with my xp2800 oved to like 2.6ghz which was good but in the end had to sell it because my pc was stupidly heavy and still is lol and i needed money

if i have spare cash in the future i will defo get watercooling again 🙂 if made right it can be sooooooo quiet

By the time that comes around, ill be well over the 4ghz range lol, not far off that now. Eitherway, speed isnt everything, you cant go past instant so i dont think ill be upgrading for a while lol.

Trev🙂

Mine weighs about 23kg which is normal, how much did yours weigh?

A liter of water and a few bits of copper is only going to up the wieght of a comp by 2-3kg, so i cant see how it made it that heavy, not unless you used a radiator out of a truck or somthing.

Just a quick update fellas regarding my new website address, I am now using a free URL redirecting service and thus my site can be viewed at

www.thegarage.cjb.net

I appologies in advance if you haven't got pop up killers installed as you will get a couple from the URL redirecting service (so they tell me anyways I haven't seen them as I use Mozzila Firefox web browser) I am using, just click NO or close the pops if you are unfortuneate enough to experience them

HiLLBiLLY,
Hello, my name is Oliver and I am from Brazil. This is my first post in diyaudio.com, even though I've been a member for a while now. I've been reading the forums for months and wanted to learn a little before speaking my comments. However, this post comes due to my viewing of your new website, thegarage.cjb.net and must I say that you are an amazing fellow. Your website is incredible even though it is still under construction. The explanations are viable even for the most beginners but suits any advanced member. I just wanted to congratulate you for all the work you are putting in to it and in helping out others build their own projectors. I am also very sorry to hear of your accident, but hey, at least it arrose some new interests for you. I hope to hear more from you. Cheers, Oliver.

Oliver

Well I have hade some nice comments in my thread in the past but yours definately is one of the best mate. Thanks very much for those kind words Oliver they are very much appreciated and im glad that you find the new website easy to understand, my goal was to make it simple and easy to follow for the newer members, yet not too mundane for the more experienced that would be viewing it also 🙂

Funny what comes about from twists of fate in life isn't it hehe, if I hadn't had my accident its extemely likey I wouldn't have a computer now let alone a DIY projector! All good, make the most of life and have as much fun as you can along the way, not much use wasting time complaining about it more than likely nobody would listen to you anyways and it would just be wasted breath LoL

All the best on your projector when you start Oliver, if theirs anything I might be able to help you with don't hesitate to drop me an email mate.

Thanks again 🙂

Photocopiers etc

Hey Hillbilly,

I have been away for 5 weeks in Japan visiting in laws etc. I note that you have been massively active in that time -- your PJ looks tops (as does your website).

I know I can buy lenses on various forums, and just to show how hard it is if you don't, one day someone dumped a reasonably old photocopier in the street outside. So, I dragged it back up stairs hoping to strip a decent lense off it. All I got was something that looks like a jewelers eyepiece, a fan and laser array!)

It looks like scrounging for parts is difficult whereever you go - even in cities where they throw out last years TV as its out of fashion. Still, I guess its a great way to fill in the harbour.

Take it easy mate, and hope to pick your brains in the near future cash and wife permitting 😉

GLASS

Oh, I forgot to mention the glass. I assume the top piece is tempered. So I guess its not completely a wasted effort. Must have looked a little odd on the X Ray machine - a small photocopier motor fan, wiring looms and a small bag of screws, button batttery, FM receiver for a remote controled car...

Wasn't sure what they would say when I told them that I was building my own PJ...

Cheers

Thanks Goeman 🙂 Have been pretty hard at but its come to a grinding hault till my FFC cable gets here so I thought I would whack up a website for others to view...thought it might help a little 🙂

LoL... well least ya had fun pulling something to bits mate 😛 pitty there wasn't much as a result hehe

Welcome back too mate 🙂

Didn't finish reading but the first 2 pages were very interesting, HillyBilly. Great job! Good fit and finish, even to the raw materials. Can't wait to see results. It's funny, because I was working on almost the exact same box design. Only I plan to ceiling mount mine, and I found these nifty little curved friction hinges that will give me my angles with ease. my thread has stalled, becasuse I'm a perfectionist and I keep redesigning my light box onlyto com out with my original results being the best and brightest. Wish I would have taken the route you took and simply lined my box with aluminum and built an adjustable condenser holder in front of it. OH well. Now I just have to drop the light box in place. Here it is...

Thanks Steamer

I know what you mean by redesinging mate LoL ... I wouldn't class myself as a perfectionist but im definately hell picky the way things look and perform and will often make several "prototypes" of whatever im constructing before im happy with the end result!

Couple of things that you may like to try with your lightbox Steamer if you haven't already...I found with the reflector as close as you dare to get it to the lamp yields the best results (did for me anyways) Just a thought bud 🙂 Also...If you look very closely at my light box in particular the bracket holding the condenser lens in place you will see i have used a spring on each threaded rod so as the tension on the condenser isn't such that movement due to heat and expansion isn't possible. Very simple very cheap and maybe not needed but good insurance IMHO to purhaps, avoid "exploding" a lens due to it being tightend down too much or un-evenly...food for thought anyways bud 🙂

Good job mate... look forward also to seeing some results when your PJ is complete....looking forward to seeing my own in action again, its worse waiting for parts now I have actually seen how damn well the first PJ worked....ah well, these little things are sent to test us all I guess LoL

Good luck with the rest of your construction Steamer 🙂

Oh...also just had another look at your light box mate, looks like you are also using 1mm aluminium for it, I found an excellent way to cut it is with a stanley knife (think Americans call them box cutters) Use a steel rule and run the blade several times along the desired cutline using medium pressure, then simply bend the aluminium a couple of times and it will snap leaving u a perfect cut. For bending, make one medium cut along bend line, then hold the rule against one side of the line and bend your aluminium, you will get an excellent "sharp" bend <---LiL' bit of advice Ace handed to me, give it a go mate you will be impressed with the ease of it and the end result 🙂

That's good info, "mate." I had been using general contractor's tinsnips. the first cut goes great, but, soon as you get into the material a bit, they get preeety cumbersome, LOL! I'll try the knife bit. I got a steel straight edge thatshould work out perfectly.

Hi all!!!

Hi, i've been on this forum a while back and made my own projector a few years ago. i used a 15" LCd monitor and 250W MH bulb. It looked fine but i want to refine it a little bit now.

One of the things that bothers me about my projector is the annoying humming noise coming from the ballast or starter. It is very loud and i cannot really concentrate on watching a movie when it is humming over my head. Does anyone know how to deal with it? Thanks. Alex.
