Jordan TL
I could not resist, after having read so much about the Jordan 92's in a TL cabinet i had to have my own go at it. I am thoroughly impressed, mostly by the smooth natural non fatigueing sound.
I also wanted to expermiment with a high gloss black finish.

My God! It's full of stars! (Sorry -I'm a 2001 fiend). Very nice indeed. Great finish. How did you apply the paint -spray?
The paint and final clear coat was applied in a spray booth, 4 layers, with wet sanding in between. The spraying and sanding can only take the gloss so far, you still end up witha little bit of orange peeling (small pits in the surface). The final shine has to be brought up with 800 grit and polish. There is a great thread on the how to's of a high gloss finish over here:

Tangband W3-871s
My first experiance with full range after reading a lot.
Beacause the TV room and the stereo room have to compete.
I just had to make something in the kitchen!
There we socialize and have time!
So with an T-amp (modded) with an cheap Cd-radio-$20-i did
this "wifey speakers"...
She stills not like them...
(Do they ever understand us?)
How they sound?
Well, i had them lower that in the picture-then they sounded very
nice!
Now i had to put them near the ceiling.
My wife...
They "bumm" to much in the base.
Hmm...not better.
But compromise...
Going to build Lenn Art Lancetta later.
🙂
But the rumours is true!
Tangband W3- 871 is very nice!
Put some pics-temporary speaker cables...
They are w=220 h=330 d=175 in mm
Volume=3,5647869...liters
🙂

The full-range speakers are my favorite ones,
since I've bought a pair of Fostex FE207E and
built up the TQWP speakers. But, the true
beauty of the single-driver sound is hard to
acquire by only one try 🙂
So, this is my second pair of speakers,
back-horns (on the basis of the Hedlund Horn
conception), the drivers are the Lowther DX3's.
It's still not finished yet, I need to tune
the compression chamber etc.
But, I'm already able to listen it. It's really
the BIG sound, coming from the BIG speakers.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Here is my current DIY speaker which is a Tang Band W4-616S in a 11.95 liter thin walled pine enclosure.

I know this is an old posting, but I simply fell for the simplistic design of these. I imagine that even my wife would love these. 😉 They look very slim, especially depth wise, so i just wonder:lyd said:Here are a picture of my new speakers with the Jordan JX92s.
It is a bassreflex design.
What are the outer measurements (without the base), and what is the internal volume of the enclosure?
Where are the mouth of the bass port located, and what is the tuning freq.?

Meet the Fonkens... that is the name of a web page i have under development. I like it. Can i steal your pictures?
How was the build?
What do you think of the sound? Did you start the run-in on the drivers before installing them.

Feel free to take the pictures, I used your plans to build them so it is the least I can do. I can get you higher quality photos if you want.
The plans were very clear and the construction wasn't too bad, but there was a lot of waiting for the glue to dry. I used 1/2" birch all around and 3/4" for the baffle. I used biscuits on all the joints and ended up lining the inside with 1/2" Sonic Barrier.
I didn't run in the drivers but I am considering the damar/puzzle-kote cone mod. The speakers image extremely well, but seem overly bright to me. The midrange really sounds dominant. I'm playing around with a BSC circuit to see if I can improve the sound to my ears, but it is difficult to find a balance between improving the low end and losing the sparkle. I'm currently running them off a gainclone and I'm not sure how much that would affect the sound.
Also, thanks for the heads-up in Music forum on the Jennies North American Tour. I'm off to see them tomorrow night at Merrimack College in Massachusetts.

Congratulations Pete, your Fonkens look great.
You really need to break in those FE127's, don't be afraid to drive them fairly hard for at least 100 hrs.
Also try using a single pair of CAT5 wires per speaker. That should give you a bit more bass.

Hi Dave,
The Fonkens are coming along slowly. I'm having trouble getting my saw to cut square, crappy fence. I discovered this during the first dry fit yesterday, so I recut the top and bottom panels for the first box. I will be attaching some felt tomorrow and will attempt glue-up.
Got sidetracked by a "must do before it rains" repair to our cedar roof.

With you there... before we got the new roof last year, we had the ugly drip, drip into the living room.
