Thanks for the input, perhaps during my testing I made some mistakes...I am still playing with the idea of the Delta 12 LFA's in the bottom compartment, about 24 liters, sealed and EQ'ed
BTW, your project is of the scale for detail and construction 🙂 really nice

thank you Godzilla 🙂
now comes the hard part...construction of the stand... I have to make it out of thin board, about 3mm, and then laminate it with a lot of fiberglass....I will star to work on it as soon as the tops are away for painting

Body filler
Right, applied first coat of body filler, two different approaches.
the one with the stainless steel ring has a thin plastic around it to prevent the filler to stick to it.
the one with the driver basket has a coat of cream (for better lack of words - hand cream type thing) applied to prevent sticking...
let's see which one works better 🙂

Small update before yet another business trip (oh god why do we have to work 🙂 )
After a lot of filling and sanding I am pretty happy with the transition from the driver to the enclosure...still needs some touch up here and there, but nothing serious. The other enclosure is completely covered in body filler and ready to be sanded. Unfortunately, after the job.
Hope to have them sanded in time of X-mas (the time when my monoblock EL34 amps should be ready 🙂 )
Danny
P.S.: Included is the pic of my wifes STAND design 🙂 comment is appreciated

I was a bit busy this afternoon with the troubles that happened with my own enclosure but I wanted to comment so here I am: Love the results on this enclosure. Looking very good or better yet: smooth at the transition.
As for the stand: It looks good, I like it. Be sure to have a wide enough stand, your speaker will be top heavy! How do you like the proposed stand yourself? I like this one better than the arc. (no offence ment to Derek 😉).
I did notice I was still gleaming at a way to use the space occupied for a helper woofer (lol). That won't work with this one but I am kind of curious about a measurement from the sphere. How low does it really go? What could you be missing frequency wise....
Maybe, just maybe it plays low enough to bring in a sub and not miss too much.

Hi Wes...are you in netherland? I travel there regularly to Boxmeer and sometimes Amsterdam 🙂 we could perhaps meet for a beer...
Well, I plan to use a woofer in the stand at the bottom, projected volume should be about 30L, bottom dimensions around 340mm wide and 550mm deep. There is a plinth and the bottom missing, about 75mm high 🙂
I like the stand a lot, the one my wife designed, she has an eye for aesthetic....
When I played the top enclosures only, I had to add a little "bass'' correction, I guess like 20%, and I could here a lot of bottom end. Not measured yet, will happen definitely. Personally I don't miss anything from the spectrum, its just I want to take away some bass duty from the Fostex to have higher power hangling capability ?(don't know why, when I'll have 4W monoblocks 🙂 ) and also perhaps to clear up a little but of midrange. All is subject to testing.
I have seen your mishap with the line arrays. Man I would be furious. That is a bummer. I hope you will sort it out. I will work on mine again in about 2 weeks, I am now in Latvia on a business trip.

Yes I am in the Netherlands... but at the other side of the country. Home of the TT moto GP races, Assen. But it would be nice to hookup sometime.
I'll get trough my troubles in time. But what I'd like to find is a recipe that works every time with that kind of construction. I'll get there some day. I do admit it has highly experimental building something that tall the way I did it.
Good to hear you're planning a helper woofer. that should help out/relieve the Fostex somewhat. Is it meant to be a passive wired helper woofer or do you plan on giving that woofer a little more power than the 4W monoblocks?
I agree with you on the stand, good eye that wife of yours, hang on to her! 😉.

Bass drivers in stand
Hi Danny,
All looking good, well done!
I can recommend the 6.5 inch PHL bass mid drivers for use in your stand...
http://www.phlaudio.com/datasheets/17_pdf/1220_1230.pdf
You could build in a couple into each stand with as little as 10 litres sealed internal air volume per driver, with a wee bit of Eq they will be fantastic to relieve your full range driver of the low end work.
You can go up to 20 litres per driver, this will increase efficiency if you need it.
If you crossover at 80Hz or below you can go side facing layout.
If you crossover higher make them front facing as you will hear the directional problems.
All the best

Interesting, thanks for suggestion Derek.
I was thinking about the Peerless SLS 8'' woofer, one in each. Should be plenty with some EQ, perhaps down to 40Hz and up to 100Hz...that is my goal.

Matching transient speed
Hi Danny,
The full ranger is a light coned fast driver with good transient speed / response and fast energy decay ( low stored energy) so I feel your best bet is to match it with the fastest bass / low midrange you can afford.
The 6.5 inch PHL will be great here, well ahead of the SLS Peerless drivers, but the twin PHL's will be twice the price....
You could look at this http://profesional.beyma.com/pdf/6P200NdE.pdf
6 inch Beyma bass mid, really fab sound and good price.
Also using a pair of fast bass / low midrange instead of one larger woofer will give you a lot of flexibility with crossover points / driver location.
Cheers

ouch.... hefty price, also on the 8'' if I go for this size... that is about 400 euros for the woofers + 200 for one more Fostex.... ouch
Have to think about it. Actually, the fostex can play on its own, until I have the woofers, i was not missing any bass when testing, so for moderate listening levels will suffice 🙂
And the bottom can be made removable, no big deal.

Just saw this... Looks great! I also want create a teardrop enclosure for the jordan jx92s. At this moment i bought two ceramic pots. This could do the tric. I also have bought the HiVi m8a to use in combination with the jordan. As this is a metal cone woofer it should match the fast full ranger. At least Tom Evans combined these in his model one speaker...
I'm also warned for baffle step issues due to the teardrop form. Whats your opinion on this?

Hi Mick, not sure myself. When finished I will post how they sound, also want to do some measurwments. I lost my job this month, so its on hold for december. Next week I will only seal them in with body filler and will bring them with me to Uk to finish them.
Measurements should be interesting... Btw, work only distracts from your speakers. That cant be right! 😀
Go to Tannoy and arrange for a MEMBER group visit on a technical tour.Staying in Hamilton, work in Coatbridge, near Glasgow 🙂
