You might also try bypassing the inductor on the tweeter. It won't be right, but maybe better while you wait for your new woofers. Try a full bypass or try using the 8 ohm resistor there instead of the 15 ohm.
FWIW here are my impressions after a speedy listening with variables:
1) R2 8 ohm: More details, more balanced, this is starting to be something!
2) L2 bypass, R2 back to 15 ohm: It seemed like the soundstage became a little darker with less gain.
3) L2 bypass, R2 8 ohm. The details returned. Clearer vocal reproduction.
4) Back to the start, with L2 connected and R2 8 ohm: Sorry, I can't hear much difference with or without the coil… Maybe the soundstage is more focused? Or could it be I'm tired after many hours of listening? The biggest difference was the value of R2, that's for sure. I ended up with this setting.
Anyway, Delphinium Blue with Cassandra Jenkins plays with an extraterrestrially large soundstage. The bass is still too bloated, and not the most speedy and articulated, but the Manzanita is very promising! I'm looking forward to the right woofers to show up.

I brought 4 GRS 15 when started. My first pair ultra finished over ten years ago and enjoy listening to them every minute. lately I make up my mind and think I should put my hands on the ultra plus of which supposed to be the project right after I finished the ultra.
Don't know much about crossover design and the first order is my pick with the help of minor EQ.

Hey Albert. Nice that you are going ahead with this. When I did the same I basically used the same low pass filter coil like a 17mH-20mH. Even though the woofers are in parallel, it works out.
That was John’s advice and it works.
For the high pass on the mid/tweeter you can start with the regular vales, but look at using a smaller series resistor, or none at all. I found that the little Vifa just could not keep up with the dual woofers so I had to go with 6.5 to 8” fullrange drivers.
I don't remember what value cap I for the high pass, but will dig through my notes.

Pano, thanks for your advice. You can find the pictures above showed there are two full range one is Lii audio F6 n the other is GRS 8" planner. I did merge them together in different working frequencies and the end result is acceptable of which you can find on the graph showed above. I'd try the crossover point you recommended n will feedback with my findings.
Thanks again

Bass trap
Someplace in the thread, I read a story where JB «demanded» replacing the 18 gauge inductor on the 15" woofer trap with something in the neighborhood of 14 gauge.
My bass trap for the 15" GRS was made from spare parts. The inductors are 0,4 mH, 24(!)AWG. That's not good but still an improvement, no doubt.
I agree with @Plott «I would consider the bass trap a must, not an option.»
Today I found two 0,56 mH, 18AWG. (higher inductance, lower resistance). Is it «good enough» or should I spend 50 bucks and order two 14AWG Jantzen Air Core Coil 0,390mH?

Why would you need to go with air core for the bass trap ? The big 20mH has a ferrite so I’d go with a ferrite core also
Since the value is 0.5mH instead of 0.4mH i have adjusted the capacitor from 15uF to 12uF so the trap remains at the same frequency.

I'm no expert on this but the big iron core inductor on the woofer operates at a very low frequency, somewhere under 100hz. Using an iron core is perfect.
But the frequency of the trap is much higher, somewhere in the 2,000 or 3,000 hz region. High enough that an iron core inductor wouldn't sound great.
At least that's my understanding.

Thanks, but I have a huge Mundorf 18mH with 1.4 mm wire on L1. I'm talking about the optional woofer trap. 0.4mH.
yes I understand. I threw that up simply because it was a needed part for this thred and the price, although not great, was waayyy better than some of the nonsense I see with inductor prices. Thanks, but I have a huge Mundorf 18mH with 1.4 mm wire on L1. I have no idea🙂

Thanks for the advice!
The easiest way is to leave the cap alone and order the correct coils. I guess 14AWG Jantzen Air Core Coils should do the trick.
I suggested the IXQ coils because in a blind shoot out I’ve read that they did much better than some expensive air coils.
