F5m kit

@roboDNA - someone else did a similar exercise and was quickly shown how useless the AI summaries can be. Don't quote AI in the threads. Your posts will be flagged and the thread may be closed. It's not productive. I'd link to the thread, but in my quick search, I cannot find it.

Edited to add - Found It

No worries, please delete the post if possible! I thought posting that info. could result in it being added to a main guide and would save builders time when trying to match up speakers. I'll dial-back my 'beginner question' posts and maybe keep that content for my personal build cook book'.

@WBS, thanks, but I never asked AI for any of the sort. I"m trying to compile a list of speakers that are well matched for the F5m and asked AI for a summary of diyaudio posts. ( make use of the neural network it implements as a summary tool, but no worries, I'll keep those to myself, I totally understand )

@ItsAllInMyHead That AI query is not the same as mine, in that the one you link to is expecting ChatGPT to understand the difference between good and bad sounding speakers. That is not going to happen any time soon. All of my AI queries make use of the neural network to summarize human content posted in dyiaudio for F5m so it is not coloring the results with 'AI generative content' which people do hate ( including myself ) The AI did ad some addition info. about specs on each speaker it recommended but the list originates from mentions in posts in dyiaudio, and how those posts were followed up to.

I suspect I'm probably the only one who got confused with how to implement the F5m Pass Bipolar PSU's for dual mono, but I'll post this anyway. After spending a couple days perplexed on how to "jumper" the PSU's properly I finally figured it out with a little inspiration from @ItsAllInMyHead .

I guess I had to expand my mind to understand that jumpers can be more than 1/2" long, and once I wrapped my mind around that, it all came together. Just goes to show that one's internal "bias" can really blind oneself. Now that I see how to do it, I feel like a total moron that I was so perplexed, but just in case it helps someone else avoid some head scratching I'll post how to do it below now that I've figured it out.

Not at all! I've been re reading the whole thread for that very answer! Once jumped, does it matter which end you take power to the amp boards. From?

My F5m has been up and running for a few days now, and I am very happy with it. Quite a difference from my first Pass amplifition, a pair of ACAs that were addicting, even driving small power hungry monitirs. Now my Falcon Q7s are happier, too. Amazing how very simple a power amp can be yet sound great and have no bad power up/down habits.

I used Tunsten's example and built with a Chinese "JC3" chassis - excellent quality, worth the outrageous shipping expense since the actual product was only $122. Lots of heatsinking. There's a lovely purple LED power indicator that looks pale blue in the image.

Hi Everyone,
I finished this dual mono f5m build a couple of weeks ago and am just getting around to posting pics. It sounds great and I've learned a ton from this thread. Thanks!

This is great I have just about everything I need to get started with a dual mono build like yours, I have some power wiring questions, great to see that the layout works, what chassis did you use?

It's the Modushop 4U/400. Nice and roomy.

I'm in the middle of a dual mono F5m build this helps answer a question or two.
Glad to hear it. When I was putting this together, I couldn't find any examples of builds using dual bipolar power supplies from the F5m kit.

I did it in a 3U x 400 deep modushop. Nice low profile deep chassis look. The Deluxe4U may be a better choice if you think you may try other amps
in this chassis. Dont know if my 3U would handle hotter First Watt clone choices, but I have only cannabolized one chassis in all my amp building years.
Which is why I have a pile of them, including my "first" First Watt clone, the original F5, which is also dual mono. So this one will likely stay a F5m for the duration!

I build artsy-fartsy audio gear so my question is, do the IRFPs need to be attached to the board directly or can I mount them away from the boards and run wires back to the board???

Also, can I cut the power supply boards in half to reduce the space needed???

To be clear, so I can make them long vs square?
