I'd like to see a monster amp. I've got a couple of monster heatsinks I'm saving for this very purpose. Of course, if we're going to use the 1kW on our subs, we'll need that xover too!
Is the 1kW a two-stage design?

OK, OK
a) The speaker section of passdiy won't be empty for
long. Kent and I have a backlog of projects finished and
not written. El Pipe-O will be the first out of the gate in
a week or two. Most of the projects are high efficiency -
98+ dB or so.
b) Wayne's passive remote will be out as soon as I
write it. Wayne hates to write.
c) What kind of monster amp do you want? There is a
surfeit of possibilities.
Muuhahahahahaaaaa.

Oh yeah, the crossover is a high priority.

Something around (or more than) kw, AB class (but with pot for bias if somebody would want it to be class A to some wattage), with balanced inputs and with mosfets I guess😀
Great!😀
but ...
what is your "high priority"?
like a Xmas gift or Easter Egg?
keep up with the good work!

Muuhahahahahaaaaa.
Make me speechless, shiver in horror. Can you do that?

1. A balanced differential like X without the "X" would be cool, but some might shriek at the parts count. A circlotron would be really cool (ever had a chance to ponder that circuit?)
2. Class AB, but high bias.
3. Able to be scaled from say 250W up thru 1kW.
4. Mosfet, naturally.
5. 2-stage, if possible.
6. Bias meter option.
7. Must have really cool intimidating name i.e. Colossus, Atom Smasher, Doomsday Machine, etc.

Anna Nicole Smith is found on E! TV, Sunday evenings at 7
Anna Nicole.....
Nelson! My wife and I laugh at that show for HOURS!!
As you may know, keeping her happy means better tolerance of audio equipment mixed among the home decor.
So, do you think "Bobby Trendy" would have some suggestions for speaker grille cloth??
Cheers

Ummm. How about a Tube section front end driving a Hitachi complimentary pair output section. Class A/B and anything over 400 Watts per channel into 8 ohm loads, oh and at least 3dB headroom, Flat response curve from 10 Hz to at least 25 KHz. switchable NFB circuit (Off, LOW, MED, WHY BOTHER) settings.
If I think of anything else I will let you know 🙂
Thanks Mr. Pass for entertaining our indulgences.

Wow. 11 smilies.
If 12 of such smilies pop up in the brain at the same time, might mean symptom of dementia…
If 11…? I don’t know.

Straight to the sin bin
well, it's a more efficient amp almost by definitiion in that Aleph type efficiency would overload anyones elec system. So, it's a green Pass machine How about "The Incredible Hulk"
Yes a 500 watt /ch amp is environmentally correct!!
Continuing on the theme... It should be powered (somehow)
by clustered 300w recycled computer switching power supplies.
come to think of it, there are no trustworthy "digital" DIY amps. The Danes are engaged in a catfight about their respective machines, etc.
Even commercially, the Bel Canto digital is a wimpy thang!
So crack the books, it's a new century 😱
er, I'll just check myself into the Pass Labs Sin Bin here, don't worry about me.

How about an amp that can be built as one 1kW channel or 10 100 watt channels? and biased between a foot warmer and a fondue cooker for summer and winter use? Something that can grow as ones system and curiousity evolves. Something where one can parallel channels, power supplies or capacitance and see how performance changes. Sort of like teaching lab moduals, only not broken.🙂
I'm thinking of a Class AB, X amp with tube input section good for say 500W per channel with floating power supply complete with input isolation transformers so we can series/parallel multiple units for almost any given power output into almost any given load as per X1000 style.
Talking about The Claw... a horn speaker...
...is there any chanse that mr Pass Himself has ever listened to a pair of Lowther Fidelio horns? In that case, what is his opinion about the speaker and it´s qualities?
written by a guy who might build a pair of them since they fit in my living room even if my name isn´t Bill Gates. The Claw doesn´t...

Mr Pass,
when we could expect some additions to
www.passdiy.com?
I'm interested especially in Return of the Claw.
Thanks

El Pipeo-O parts 1 and 2 will be released in November.
ZV5 will be released in December.
The Claw is awaiting some more floor space in the shop,
so probably January.
After that, the crossover.
