Why balanced?
I don't know much about electronics.
But if i'm not mistaken the aleph amps are class A single ended designs.
Why should the preamp or the AXO be balanced?
Is there a real advantage there?
I have no experience with balanced designs, i have never used one in my system.
What are the sonic benefits of balanced operation?
Thanks,
Nick

balanced interconnects minimise hum and noise pickup and if the signal path is balanced back to the source, also minimise timing noise and other unwanted spurious signals by virtue of differential cancellation....
Audiofreak,
I understand, but isn't there also a negative effect due to the extra active devices added to the circuit?
Thanks,
Nick

as far as line level goes, the gains outway the negative effects which equate to practically zero in this case. Make sure you do not confuse balanced with push/pull operation, I generally prefer balanced single ended circuits.
Some information, on what appears to be the Claw jr, extracted from the XVR1 ELECTRONIC CROSSOVER NETWORK OWNERS MANUAL:
Real Project #2
"This is a much more complex system. It has twin 21 inch subwoofers mounted in a 12 foot long transmission line, a 12 inch woofer for midbass, a 5 inch midrange, and a ribbon tweeter. This system will be quad-amped."
"And there we have it, a quad-amped loudspeaker with a response +-5 dB from about 18 Hz to 40,000 Hz."
Wow! My appartment does not even have a ceiling 12' high 🙁
A great manual by the way - highly informative about crossovers - a must read! A big thanks yet again to 'the one and only' for making all this information freely available.

Would have thought that your kids would be SoP en DoP?
And even BoSoP or SoSoP or BoDop or..... AHhhhhh
Lemme ask what my girlfriend thinks of SoT or DoT 😀
This is not Claw Jr., but rather an interim woofer project
named "El Pipe-O" to be released shortly.

balanced line stage and...
I have NEVER done any electronic project in my life, meaning i have never drawn on a copperplate etc etc...
(i am 45)
i did finish the balanced line stage and found it quite relaxing!
i managed to finish the whole thing included the powersupply etc.etc.
Then i thought i would tackle the amplifier SOZ . it seems hard for me to find the right resistors without having to buy them at digi key. ( they weem a bit expensive)
do you guys have any experience in this or should i go for a 'more to do amplifier ...... ?
Thanks
Jean-Pierre

maybe you should go for this fantastic amp:

It was my first.

Nelson Pass said:Since you ask, I would be happy to do a 1+ KW class AB
monster, just the kind that Kilowatt is always talking about,
but with circuitry simple enough not to frighten you big macho

Who wants to compete with Son of Dork on something
like this?
😉
Now you've got me interested. Where do I find info about your monster? Have you published anything or is it just in your head?
Nelson Pass said:It seems to be surfacing from the Id. Are you sure you really want a monster amp?

..from the Id (don't understand😕 )
No, I don't want a monster amp (right now) but I'm curious about yours.
Freud spoke of the Ego and the Id, the yin and yang of
the mind.
In the movie Forbidden Planet, the villains are the "Monsters
from the Id", amplified by the Krell's handiwork.
(I couldn't resist)

Monsters! Monsters from the id!
"My evil self is at the door, and I have no power to stop it."
"Yes, a single machine, a cube 20 miles on each side."
Do you understand the mechanism, Robby?
Robby: Yes, Morbius. A simple blaster.
Can you make it a bit smaller? But simple blaster would be cool!
H.H.
One of my favorites I have on DVD and even I missed your joke

I haven been wondering about it before, and since Nelson
brought up the topic: did the company Krell take their name
from that movie?
