Classic Aleph Amplifier for Modern UMS Chassis Builder's Thread

Anand,

Here you go. I made a spreadsheet of "Aleph Differences" when I set out on this project with all the different resistor values, etc. Here's the big data points I think you're looking for.

That's great! In the last couple of months I was busy finishing the Iron Pumpkin pre, so I had no time for the Aleph 60 - but now!
Only the xformers are missing (and the case), so before I order, I wanted to clarify the required power. Am I right - based on the sheet above -, that a 300va xformer per channel will do the job? I planned with 400va, but they have the issue with the high inrush current which requires a limiter. So, will 300va go? And if so, what would be the value for the snubber resistor?
Many thanks in advance.

Stupid me... Is the NTC the dedicated inrush current limiter? If so, there is no problem...
The CL60 on the CL60/AC-Cap board is the inrush current limiter.

The other CL60 to ground is the hum buster.

If you're using the CL60/AC-Cap board, you're covered.

Regarding the "Aleph Reloaded" thread. Have a look and notice that some key elements are included in the boards and build doc.

Anand, you can try member prakit:

He actually had some matched 2sj313 pairs for sale recently so you might ask if he has any more.

Cheers,
Dennis
Dennis,

Referencing to the link of the ‘Aleph Design Reloaded‘ on post #433:

If I am unable to procure the 2SJ313 matched pairs, but am able to buy a bunch of FQP3P20’s (which appear to be plentiful) and given the current source (CS) being 20-22mA in the Aleph 60 input stage (5V across resistor R11: 220R), would I match the FQP3P20’s for 10mA so they can equally share the current from the CS as closely as possible?

I typically use either AMB Audio’s guide or Pass’ guide right here.

Thanks,
Anand.

I’ve got you covered if you don’t feel like matching. These are already matched.

Since you brought it up, I had noticed originally you had incorporated Papas suggestions from the Aleph Reloaded thread. The one thing that stayed on your plans and he discussed deleting was Q4 and the associated R15 and R16, or the protection circuit. I'm guessing the upside of leaving this alone is retaining its protection effect. But I the proposed benefits of eliminating these 3 parts? Clearly Papa thought there was a little juice to be squeezed by dropping them.
