Beautiful build Bensen!
How about 10" or 12" Tannoy monitors - do those qualify as "bookshelf" speakers?

Depends on your definition of "bookshelf" I guess.
I always wonder where the English put those speakers? I suppose they are made for the aristocrats with a manor room to fill. For most people, their WC rooms are smaller than the speakers...
This is America... ;-) Imagine, a seven channel home theater like that... Oh, the speaker.... I'm referring to the speaker! For sure a WAF of 0.

only proper to have at least one pair in proper standalone (how else?) MLTL box, and pair of smallest possible bookshelf
first serving as normal listening pair, second to use while working on 'puter..... or simply typing drek on Forums

those
give me pair of those as gift ........ with permission to sell them right away

gorgeous furniture, but not much more than that ...... though - Kudos to Old Boyz at Tann - right drek made for right target group
if you want proper Tann box, from Yore, look no further than Autograph and GRF (corner)
My "drek" speakers are a pair of Acoustic Energy AE1. In flat black.
Life is too short to bother with drek speakers....
How about a pair of Elac Carina BS243.4? Or Elac VBS404.2. You might find them used too. I've heard the former, not the latter. I do have two pairs of cheaper, late model Elacs and I'm impressed by the quality of the sound, specially at their price. I do like the sound of their ribbons. They are also available in well finished piano black, with black grills, which will blend with the cabinetry and should definitely have a high WAF.
Might have to put a small subwoofer someplace. I'm running a pair of such.. the crossover only as a low pass to a little Parasound Zamp. They are unobtrusive and actually fill in the bottom end, just a little bit, quite nicely. This is in the system with a single F4, mind you... the preamp is a CJ ET3SE, so this is NOT a drek system. 🙂 😉

You could do the active ones... but I chose the passive ones because they are very unobtrusive and standing up are really shallow. Also those four little drivers are quite fast and keep up with the Metronomes and AE1s. You'll never know those small (17"H x 16"W x 6"D ), shallow squares are speakers. And being passive all you need is a speaker cable... and no worrying about the heat of an amp.
The man wants bookshelves.... not big Huge English Boxes made for the Lord High at his Manor.

The man wants bookshelves
that's his right, by Constitution
though, mine is, by same fact, to mock ya all for having too small speakers

You forget my Magnepans are bigger.... how tall are you speakers, huh?
And the PSB Gold-i are 43.5"H x 12"W x 16.5"D and weight 95 lbs each.
Then the ADS L810 are 26"H x 14"W x 12"D... hardy a small speaker...
And if you boast too much... the Entecs are 25" x 12" x 16" and they are HEAVY...
So, now, what were you boasting about big speakers?
Oh,. the Metronomes I acquired at BAF24, are 52" tall. Tall, long towers of power.
There.

Ay..... may you stub your toes on a pair of Big PSB Goldi as you get up to change the volume.
Now back to the amps....

As I'm doing a parts order I'm wondering if the MJE340/350 is drop in replacement for the bd139/140. You've mentioned using it in next kits. Any reason to not add to my order?
TTC015B / TTA008B have been suggested a few times as alternatives to the BD139 / BD140 and TTC004B / TTA004B pairs. They have a slightly higher output capacitance (25pF vs 17pF) and seem to be faster (same transition frequency at a higher current). Price aside, is there anything in it?no reason
in fact, I ordered TTA004B and TTC004B
Speaker protection - for turn-on and -off thumps? Are there any preferred circuits?
Price aside, is there anything in it?
main thing here is actually using bjts with higher voltage (than initially used good old BD)
now, if making a change, why not using modern ones......... where one of superior factors is linearity of their Hfe in current domain, comparing to older good parts
even if there is no significant current change involved, but who cares - part is good, presently manufactured, decent price
regarding question - one TTA/TTC type vs. another - choose randomly, still no error made
interelectrode capacitances aren't much of an issue, when silly follower is in case
IXFN140N20P vs. IXFN140N30P, is there a preference for one over the other?
VDSS, IDM, dV/dt are higher on the IXFN140N30P;
ID100, RDS, Ciss are better on the IXFN140N20P.

Well, I was reading this and kept thinking of ZM...
Where did ZM go wrong? Maybe ZM needs to hire a copywriter and some marketing guy?
"... the Reference SET is simply transcendental in its stunningly natural rendering of timbre and density of tone color.. "
( I used to take TAS seriously )...

OK, change the name.... Zen SET AU Signature... and SIT 252 Zen Platinum Reference Mk II. Monos. We'll have to get Gianluca to make some fancy cases... like he did for the P3. Make sure to put some d'Agostino meters.
Keep the XA252 MOSFET for us peons.
Pass Labs stuff? Pffft.. that's for the MBA crowd... let's shoot for the Lawyer crowd.
Let's do it. Imagine, how it will sound... all that silver... glassy.....
BTW, I know about preposterous names... my expresso grinder is a Eureka Mignon Libra Grinder... grind great, but being Italian you know something... the "A" came off. so now I got a "LIBR"... My wife calls it the "Liver Espresso Grinder".... figures... 😉 🔥

d'Agostino meters.
which reminds me what I'm lacking in Tanka and Tatanka - green or amber LEDs ( changeable by setting with remote control) under tubes, and glass cover for case
if that is desirable for McIntosh, how could I do different?
though, I'm sure that late M. Nestorovic would reach from the grave and curse me, trice

conclusion, Steampunk - yeah!! every day......... Steamdrek ....... never
