Babelfish F8

It is said that the domestic J74 is produced in Malaysia. I don't know exactly where it is produced either, and the price is cheap. I previously compared the Toshiba 2SK170 with the domestic K170, and I couldn't feel much difference between them. The main difference between the Toshiba 2SJ74 and the domestic J74 lies in the transconductance, but the sound quality is not inferior. Secondly, the temperature drift of the domestic J74 is much larger.

Have started down F8 rabbit hole. That led to Scryer, which led to two questions.

Is scryer, (Same question for F8) a Square law output stage? I thought I read something in Scryer than made bone in head think that, haven't seen such mention in F8....

Second question, I see original version, then B version and I think mention of M version....
I read you to say original versions "left metallic taste" which minimal I'm sure may mean I should try newer version. Not caring for metal as general proposition in sound, which one should I focus on? Or is it only one kit?

Speakers mostly First Watt Clone friendly,

Scryer thread is https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/scryer-or-how-f8-met-mighty-sissysit.388550/

Scryer itself is very loosely based on F8 ......... practically FE tricks implemented while everything else different, including polarity of used input JFet (just because)

and yes, if you not see source resistors in output stage, feel free to see OS as pure Square Law

Second question, I see original version, then B version and I think mention of M version....

Edit on 12.02.2025.

regarding sound differences between Babelfish F8 and F8b and F8m ................... I'm not so sure there is any difference; at least I didn't hear anything wrong with neither of 3(6) permutations, while fun factor and cricket's smile were pretty much the same
take in account that I'm deaf, blind and mute; so my criteria being slightly looser than usual

"left metallic taste"

  • it left sorta metallic taste in Might ZM's mouth ......... level of Babelfishing is just enough to call it Babelfish, and I was so eager to get more

meant - as it is in human nature to crave for unobtanium, things hard to reach and we less like/appreciate things easier to get........ I felt not sastisfied enough with initial Babelfish F8, it was just too easy
so, that being reason for psychological metallic taste in mouth, and I felt need to do more

so, B and M iterations are results

and I'm feeling happy; 6 slightly different poems, rhymed under one common title

what's not to like?

Same with scryer as well then?

it is about Scryer:

speaking of Scryer?

R139-R142 are current sense resistors, effectively 0R11, in drains

though, we are in Babelfish F8 tread.......

however:

I thought R14 and R15 were source resistors,

I didn't found R14 and R15 neither in Scryer nor in Babelfish F8 (ignoring 1hundred and 2hundred as channel denominators) anywhere close to be suspicious as source resistors for output devices

from Mighty ZM "....all my amps are sounding the same"
you are right - they all sound f'ing outrageous

Got the F8 in my system yesterday - of course the sound is fantastic - it makes you want to listen !!! depth of soundstage. placement of instruments etc all there

Excuse the pics - I have a common PSU I use with all my 24V amps - CLC in box R from Powercon and another C in amp box
