And what did we buy today?

Hi Tony,
Thanks. Yes it was a good score.

That guitar really does look like a custom job. You wouldn't think it was a standard model by looking at it. Even if it is a standard model, I think you did the right thing where your daughter is concerned - and you of course!

-Chris

I guess it is custom to a degree, in that it a lower cost version of a guitar that has been taylored to a specific artists needs. My Daughter likes metal and heavy rock so it is a good fit there, but it sounds really nice clean too (I'm sure eventually she will come around to playing without tons of distortion 😀 )

She always complains when she finds I've turned the gain down on her little fender amp 😉

Tony.

For a guitar amplifier, you could try feeding grid of V9 (Model J) and en/dis-abling volume and relay supplies, though what-all has to change is not obvious. While the driver-power section is not a lot like the guitar amps we know, I bet with its sidetable-size cabinet it is a very musical thing.

Thanks for the tips and links, it may end up going that direction. Not soon, though.

Hi PRR,
You sure are a helpful wealth of information!

Indeed, we're lucky to have him here.

Only one way to find out... 🙂

I had a curious suspicion at least one of these would end up with a guitar plugged into it!

A Capitol cassette/radio player...

Bought a used, ancient washing machine timer on ebay for $80. That was my squeaky wallet upper limit to try to fix a 1989 washing machine at my tenants' place. If I'd known it was from '89 and not fully functional, I would have turfed it before they moved in.

It will be a while before I am able to fly it. Just unpacking it is intimidating.

The chaos those things caused over the UK recently, I wouldn't be surprised if they got banned, or at least very heavily legislated.

Cool though, a few students in my degree class of 2014 were building quadcopters based on Arduino or IPhone for their projects.

I don't know if you saw this thread. I had one of these in the late 60's. It's a true electromechanical sequencer / drum machine 1959 style.

Anyone remember the Wurlitzer Sideman?
I will check your thread thorougly, as I haven't a clear view how this will work. I have to fix a simple device to make the punched hole tape - that is one thing I know.
Then maybe try to use some kind of optical sensor (or electromechanical) that turns the "holes" into an electric signal that will feed a D/A ... maybe ....

I must assume that you know about these guys. Somewhere in one of their many videos they explained how to "program" the paper tapes. I watched everything they did until the start of the new machine. I haven't followed that one very much.

Somewhere in the 70's or 80's there was a magazine article that discussed a music player using the 1 inch wide perforated paper tape readers that were being discarded by the thousands as the computers of the day transitioned to magnetic for programs and backups. The tape was only capable of 8 bit data since it had only 8 holes. We were still using the paper tape systems on our CNC machines at work in the late 80's. The "programmer" had a typewriter keyboard and a mechanical punch system. The readers used incandescent bulbs and photocells. They were old enough to be pre-LED.

Yup. Quite the process to register it, take training sessions, and certification to be legit.

I can see how it would be helpful for assessing roof condition.

I've been trying to get a look at all the parts of my roof, which without climbing up and looking, I have to walk down to the end of the terrace, spot my roof 8 houses up, and look for dodgy looking or absent tiles.

Sooner or later ill just pay someone to give the roof some maintenance
