Alpair MAOP 10.2

You have only heard Mark Audio strongly suggesting proper break-in, almost all FRs worth their salt require proper break-in. You have subjected to your drivers to abuse that means they will never meet their design spec.

I do not, without properly checking, any design from any manufacturer. The geometery & physics of the box pictured make it an ML-TL.

As long as you don’t have a large room and don’t play to loud, as long as you factor in the amplifier’s output impedance, you should be able to make a superb system. I have heard magic from a 3.5w 2A3 amp, speakers in the 85 dB range and in my biggish room, just couldn’t play really loud.

Thanks Dave. Appreciate the input. Is the mini-onken the enclosure you would recommend for this application? I'm following this thread to see how Leif's "beta test" works out!

I am of course, as the designer, a fan of the miniOnken. If you need is an elegant, finessed standmount, and you prefer quality over bass extention i think little can match them.

But FHXL, Pensil, perhaps an adapted (tall) Woden ML-TL will eliminate th need for stands and get you more bottom.

As a BR, MS11 and MAOP11 sims virtually overlap, so you could use a published MS11 box while you're waiting for one of Dave's designs. Pretty sure Scott did a series for the 11MS. I'll see if I can find them.

Edit: Here they are: http://wodendesign.com/downloads/Nostromo-Alpair11ms-reflex.pdf

There's also a front port design: https://www.markaudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Fenlon-110MS.png

Thanks Jeff, though I would like to try something different, as I currently have them in a BR box. Currently I am looking into Scottmoose's designs (if possible to fold his MLTL to a suitable size) and secretly waiting if Dave comes up with anything.

Though I have not chosen any design, I would like to say I really appreciate the effort that is being put into designing enclosures for MA products. It makes the DIY aspect feel much safer in achieving the intended goals, so thanks to all (Scottmoose, Dave et all)!

maybe is useful for the others,

here is sim for 65 liter box where i have driver mounted, / the previous page, 65lit , port size fi 7cm 8cm long, internal height of the box is 99cm (it is a box for Sonido driver actually), volume is too big for this driver and it is seen bass boost what im hearing ..

and second picture sim is what would be the next box for Maop 10.2, 16 liter BR box (port fi 5cm x16cm long ), looks more linear..
next week i will transfer the driver to it and have some listening session 🙂

also i have in plan to build two special amplifiers for this driver.. VFET S.E. 16W and PP EL34 for ensure some fun in the next couple of years 🙂

Thanks! That’s very helpful.
And your plans for amps to build/use are eerily similar to mine.

I'm building the minionken.
Got all parts in place and the underside and top remain. The damping must enter the boxes before I close it.
I will paint my boxes. But first I want to listen to them.
Will be back when I have the audition.

Do note that the miniOnken, tend to be quite specific to the driver, and the optimum volume gives me an idea of how different the drivers are. The M10.2’s (11 litre) is half-way between A10.3 (13 litre)and A11ms (9 litre). A10.2 is 17 litre.

Enclosures like the FH where the box dominates, or more typical reflexes.

hehe yes yes! can't wait for that! 😀 russian VFET which is still under the radar, and transformer coupled in the drain (like tube single ended, to avoid coupling electrolytic cap for the output) and maximize the output power!

back to topic, here is interesting sim for the MLTL MAOP 10.2
99 cm internal height remain, but now half volume- 28 liter,
port dimensions fi 5cm x 6.5 cm (length) gives some extension below 40 Hz

Here are the T/S params, they're different from what is mostly found on the web.
The cone mms is lower and more in line with the Maop10.2

Thanks nandappe,
I will follow that advise.
Those oxidized MAOP cones look a lot like the Accuton ceramic cones,
I need to find a grill like those used on my Accuton mids, it's a very open grill.

I started building your Adjustable-Duct Type SDDBH-T15.5R-AD.
It's some more work than a simple BR cabinet 😉

Thanks!
It's a combination of wood I could find here locally.
Outside is 18mm 12 layer birch
Inside big middle panel is 12mm 8 layer birch
Inside horn shape panels are 15mm 7 layer poplar

I like the design because of being able to tune both horns with the moveable output port and also the size of the chamber.
