Acoustic Horn Design – The Easy Way (Ath4)

May aim is not to, once I have achieved truthful reproduction, listen to recordings from bad concert halls 🙂

//

You could just select recordings made in the halls of your preference.
The back catalog of recent and historical recordings is extensive enough to fill the musical needs of several people's lives.

...once I have achieved truthful reproduction...

How would you define "truthful"?
Or do you mean "believable"?

Here's a suggestion.
Clone the attached system by using 4x 12" or 15" + CD horn.
Determine the optimal slot width, depending on the XO frequency.
This is undoubtedly one of the best concepts for reproducing a "live" recording, such that neither the room nor a cabinet spoil the experience.

Truthful = believable, OK! But not forced believable or believable with an effort - but truly surprisingly being *there* believable.

I'd like firstly to be convinced technically that the architecture of a proposed system seem to have the ability to deliver what I would like to hear. Then the deal must be sealed by an audition.

The above contraption is conceived within the current 2-ch stereo concept and might be the SOTA of what can be achieved within the limits of such system. But given the flaws of that system it can still only sound "nice" as I see it. But I don't blame the speaker. I could however absolutely see myself building someting like that - I already own corner placed line sources with 18pc of 4" drivers in each. Just need a WG - thats why I'm here. Even if it won't solve my deepest desires. Again - not the WG fault. (this was all an OT detour - sorry!)

I settle for the perfect horn/WG for the time being 🙂 and I seem to be in the right place.

I ask because of your statement about whether or not todays systems could recreate the experience of a live concert hall...I'm trying to judge your opinion of them....I think you said we (as in loudspeaker design) have a ways to go...were you not impressed by them or you feel like somehow they weren't exactly what you were looking for?

edit: judging by the Beveridge SW2 pictures I just seen and your current 18 piece driver line array situation it looks like you are building towards something like it...

Even if I have found a few systems sound really impressive they have still been quite a far cry from hearing a live full orchestra. At times I self-suggested myself to think that I'm getting a bit close to just be pushed down into my shoes again at next visit at the one of the halls here.

Enough of this...

did anyone of you tried to generate a midrange horn contour with ath4?
I already asked here but there was no feedback. Does this mean nobody tried or does this mean ath4 is not designed doing this?

Here is a comment that got ignored right before we chased HOMS and concert halls.
Can we go low or no? How low can we go?
With the Axi.....I'd make a good candidate to try out some things regarding going low with a tweeter

Midrange, the spectrum from roughly 250 to 4,000 Hz?
You'll need a cone driver in order to cover this with a waveguide.

when searching for the the xlim that I never found I started getting close to loud enough at 215hz with no horn...I don't know exactly what a waveguide does outside of provide a rolloff....how it affects acoustical impedance is what I don't know I guess.
