Jaxboy.
Good morning.
I tried to get into my computer last night but it had just done an update,so wouldn't do anything 😕 .
In the end I had to take out the battery, that's another two hours of my life I won't get back, thanks Microsoft 😡 .
Steve
Try Linux 🙂
Spedge,
The recording is from Youtube and cleaned up a bit in Audacity, so the noise is what I couldn't clean up. I don't have a microphone, so it is not from my DMLs.

That explains a lot.
I use my old Samsung phone, the stereo sound is excellent, it would be interesting to hear your panels but don't worry.

In Linux, you update, when you want, if you want. And, it is not proprietary. Updating takes just few minutes, not hours. 🙂
Jaxboy
Excessive noise reduction in audacity can cause the noise that is on the recording.
I found this out when I tried to use it on my LPS ?
Chdsl.
I turned on my computer about half hour ago and its still trying to configure window, telling me not to turn it off, it's going out the window in a minute 😀
This is what made me change my mind about putting all my LPS on the computer, all I want to do is turn on the computer and play music, is that too much to ask ?

Have a look here how to dual boot.Chdsl.

Codona interesting noises.
Just recorded and uploaded using my phone only.
Only problem is its the free version so will only let me record for 3mins .
This is the canvas on the left and the veneer on the right both with fabric domes , plus sub.

Hold the power button down until the computer powers off. Unplug all the peripherals, like webcams, microphones, and scanners, leaving only the bare minimum -- keyboard, mouse, monitor, and restart. Windows will try to update and reconfigure itself.
This is a standard headache of most Windows users.
Has anyone tried attaching exciters to a bass drum head? One can get 18" drum heads at Guitar Center for $22.99.
So much fun on this forum.

I bought a while ago a snare drum like this. I intend to cut in half and experiment with some exciters. For an odd reason it is still in the box, but in about a week or so I'll have time and space to dedicate myself to the DML cause.
On the same line, another musical instrument could be a 12" tambour .
Maybe I should do a plot of the fabric dome only, to see what the response is without the panel, and see how they match?
They sound very good , so I'm just doing a lot of listening at the moment, that's a good sign.
Chdsl.
Thanks , I may look into dual boot,or get a friend who knows what they are doing 🙄

Spedge,
Sorry you had so much trouble with your computer update! I came back upstairs after eating last night to find that microsoft had decided to update mine as well. Don't you just love it when they just decide that your wishes are not relevant, and anything you are working on can maybe be recovered after they are done screwing with you? Thankfully, I didn't have anything in the works that they interrupted. The previous update gave me this news thing that continually decides to come on the screen, taking up half of the screen, and is seemingly impossible to remove unless I go to it and then x out of it. There's no way to delete it that I've found, either. Thanks, microsoft. You have to have your tentacles into everything, don't you?
What did you think of the Dessay recording, other than the recording artifacts? As I remember, that was a pretty dirty recording, with a lot of vinyl record noise. I will look for a better recording of it. I think that aria is so moving. Dessay is one of my favorite singers.

I have seen some good YouTube videos, by the same guy, on how to use a vibration device to make speakers using several materials.
Yesterday I found this in Ali Express, and the price and video demo made me curious about those devices again.
AIYIMA Audio Portable Speakers 25W/20W 4 Ohm/8 Ohm 44/50MM Full Range Vibration Speaker Altavoz Portatil Resonance Bass Speaker|vibration speaker|portable speakerbass speaker - AliExpress
The devices in YouTub were Dayton, I think, but I don't think that's that important.
So I came here, made a search and found this thread. The good initial surprise was to find a FR curve, which was never shown on the YouTube projects.
Now I wonder if there's a practical project speaker in the 348 pages of this thread, and if someone can tell me where to go.
Has anyone built panels that relatively flat and full range, with actual measurements?

Steve,
vis-a-vis
acoustic guitar sound boards
and...
Ekoa® composite used to make "linen" guitars. See Lingrove & Blackbirdguitars.
Next subject, (someone may have posted this before) see Fantastic DIY Speakers for less than $30!. This has changed my view of suitable DML material characteristics. The video further explores the idea of placing weights on the back of panels at the 2/5 divisions to improve the response of panels. Very interesting.
See attached photo from the video.

Did you make an actual panel? What material and what size?
Carlmart,
Go to page 88, I believe it is, and look for the post by Offgridkindofguy. It is the start of the artist's canvas panels discussion. He uses 12x16" blank artist canvas panels that he paints with a 50/50 mixture of pva glue and water on both sides (I used common acrylic paint instead of the pva glue to color my panels, with excellent results). We used a thin (2-5mm) 4x6" rounded corner panel of ply glued to the center of the canvas on the back to mount his exciter. I used the Dayton DAEX25FHE-4 exciters, and got down to at least 40 Hz with no problem. I used a 100 mf capacitor in line to limit the lower range to around 45Hz, as they will thump with hard bass notes. The sound is very natural and quite pleasing to the ear. Spedge is a very good go-to guy on this subject. He helped me a lot with my panels. He showed a lot of measurements in many of his posts. Good luck, and welcome to the canvas panel club.

Thanx, Jaxboy.
Can't find the guy. Went 6 before and 6 after from page 80 and no guy.
Can you have a look at the device I showed and tell me if it's at the same level of those you're using?
Well, I can get artist canvas here that size, and use glue + water to make it more rigid, which I guess is the intention. Same thing for the holding central plywood.
Have you seen the videos of the YouTube guy that tries several materials for the panels, makes an audio sweep and uses sugar to find the resonant nodes? It might work on these panels too.
These panels I'm interested in to put on my bedroom, where now I have two Philips full range boxes, with no bass at all.
The problem on the curve on page 1 is the plunge down after 5K that never recovers, so I wonder using a small tweeter, crossed at 5K and see what happens. I think the canvas can hold a neodymium tweet fine.

These are mine - work in progress - ca 70 x 50 cm with ca 15 cm diameter circle. The bar in the middle prevented center placement, so I chose some random location. Glued with transparent silicone and a silicone bead around the whole frame. The circle should be ideally in the center of the canvas and the hole was suggested by someone a few posts back.
Edit - I yet have to cut the spine for the transducer - it will be glued to it not to put any load on the canvas.
