It was a lot of work to put together. The board including:
balanced to unbalanced konverter
dc servo
cfa topology power amplifier, with 7 pairs of output devices
real clip detector with limiter
v/i limiter, which optocoupled to trigger the output relay (retry to start the amp in 4sec)
thermal shut down at 95C (restart at 85C)

Yes. On SMD it's smaller.
Yes, I compared it to the first version 🙂 I did a lot of work, to integrate the protection to the amplifier board....
