I started out by re-foaming the surrounding edges on the four bass elements. Then I ordered new caps for the xovers but they are still unpacked. Too much other things to deal with. A three weeks visit to Tanzania almost emptied my bank account so I am kind of lost in the snow. So new speaker elements, well, I need two tweeters, four midbass and four bass (push-pull) - I guess currently that is not my wife's priority. And she makes the money, I am just a retired poor man. 🤔 In addition I am not as technical as you guys are. Things move slowly when I am in action.
Anyway, I keep following this thread with great interest, eventually and hopefully getting my hands on the speakers and then I will return with questions, rest assured!

And i also did that "in the old day´s" ( 1988-1999 ), now i try to keep as few component´s in the chain as posible but that mean it from the begaining have to be good sound from the speaker, amp and room and that´s trickey.
yeah you are right,but in my case everything is better with the HK amp BUT the midrange sounds better on the yamaha so thats irretating as i listen alot to 80-90s metal rock and blues so guitars and vocals are important,if i remember you had a drop at 3k herz? And that is what i think i can hear in my home
Is quite diffucult to get good sound from in general.
Demands a "type of amp" that suits it.....Tube amp´s ?
Maby Onkyo will make you "happyier" then HK and Yamaha in total..
HK is good at the upper mid/tweeter, Yamaha at the middle....Pioneer a little more dull over all
Yeah the bass and tweeter are really good on the HK and it sounds like it got atleast double the power of the yamaha,havent even had it on half the volume yet and its LOUD and focused and Ian pleased now with the eq to fix the midrange.

After some time listening i have come to the conclusion that the upper range is kind of thin and metallic sounding..
Is it me?
Is it that it is higher resolution in the sound that show of flaws in the recording?
Is it the amp? It do have an open and sharp sound..

Can you alter the perception by playing with speaker position.
Initially try toe in changes in 10 degrees or so.
How close are the speakers to nearby sidewalls.

Can you remind me what your mid and tweeter Xover components are? Are they the same as Jawen's design?
I think the SB26 has great performance for the price. Getting a tweeter fully integrated and tuned to your satisfaction needs careful consideration of level, how the level matches the mid range and ideally follows a flat or downward slope to get a nice power response..
At a simple level and without a microphone to measure, you could try inserting three ohms in series with the input capacitor to the tweeter Xover?
The resistor in series with the capacitor should allow you to tune level easily. A 5 watt power rating should suffice whilst you experiment, you can even use smaller wattage to test. If it goes quite you will have probably have popped the resistor. I have seen half watt resistor's used to act like a fuse, if people turn the volume up at parties.

Yes its jawens first ”version” of the filter with three changed caps,dont remember the values right now,
The biggest problem i think is that its hard to get an open clear sound with high res without it getting to ” much” with some music

Difficult to say without measurements or modelling to help.
Maybe a bit of a classical dip would help between 2-3KHz. Have you any modelled information and it will be worth digging out the values you used for the exact Xover.
I know its in the thread, but what version of speaker do you have, and if I remember correctly you also made some new baffle pieces for the 5FE100/5FE120 ? Care do post some images?

Some thick felt would be a quick and cheap fix , I.e. the 1 cm square type stuff used around the ls3/5a tweeter, or alternatively some thick felt carpet felt cut that into strips.. With Measurement you would be able to see how effective this can be.
If I get round to a D'appolito with two 5fe100 and the SB26 I will post some further info. They are good units.

You haven´t done the "final" modification on your crossover Belemakare, so hard for me to tell!!
The final xover was on page 13 post #254 including "how you do it" and
2 X 15uF caps
12uF cap
one 1 mH coil
2,2 ohm resistor
/per speaker
Post 127 was only 3 caps
Have to fix food for my daughter now, but will be back.

80-90´s cd album and recordings is real trickey to get playing "perfect".
They often sound thin and a little nasally ( much like you described your problem)
Vinyl records often be a better "source" there, because the music is compressed too much, and those who master (finish) the CD/MP3 at the time, often try to "hit the biggest market" and that was carstereo industry/radio...
And carstereos often dont even play frequencies below 50 hz and is surrounded by noise from wind, tires etc, so almost never any hi-end resolution.
And the better your stereo system is, the more you will hear from bad recordings ( and sometimes thats a problem)
I way to tackle that is to have 2 different settings in your receiver, so you can change with the push of a button when listening to such music.
Because of your use with "only" 3 caps xover modification ( insted of the full one with Peerlees woofer) I think you maby have 2-3 dB "to much" between 1300-3000 hz, and after that a drop......that can enhance your sense of "in your face" or a little fatigue over 3000 hz

Your measurement curve probably looks something like this ( green )
Its a 2 dB rice from 1300 hz to around 3K, and i think thats your hearing especially at 80s-90s metal rock recordings.
