RCA 2N3055 - first date of really availability for the industry - which year?
I still search the exact first launched date of RCA's 2N3055.
Under post #33 and post #34 about
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/parts/167680-vintage-transistors-4.html
you will find some cover pics of vintage RCA semiconductor databooks. Perhaps one of you can identify that book, where the 2N3055 was first mentioned.
In the moment I know only the claim from wiki - the early 1960.

Altec 351C equipped with AL40494 (selected 2N3055) for the output power stage.
Who knows the year of the introduce of Altec's "351 C" ?
And who knows about it's sound resp. sonic character?
Also schematic wanted.

Altec 1590E equipped with AL 40494 = selected 2N3055
This 1590 E mono power amp is equipped with a big fat output transformer. It would be very interesting to know how it sounds. Some guys claim, this amp is absolutely the best sounded amplifier from all with a small amount of idle current. This could be right because it's symmetric circuit topology (really true complementary stage instead so called "true complementary" NPN/PNP output power stage) and the according distortion behaviour.
All papers you will get here:

Altec 1593B is a smaller mono amp than the 1590E, but works with same basic topology, i. e. also without so called "true complementary" NPN/PNP output power stage; output transformer seems to be larger than the mains transformer.

Very interesting thread, with many non-conventional transistor amplifiers. Personally, I'm fascinated how the ElectroVoice EV11xx series sounds, even if many people say it's just distortion.
I haven't read through the whole thread, so please baer with me if I missed something. Do original RCA 2n3055 have some sort of date code on them? I have one that reads:
"2N3055
RCA
RG 563"
Was it possibly made in May 1963?

Altec 1594A and 1594C - latest of 159xx series equipped with Successor of 2N3055
It seems to be, that Motorola's 2N5878 was by Motorola a successor of the 2N3055 (80V/10A/150W/4MHz vs. 60V/15A/115W/2,5MHz)
The circuit topology is basicly the same than bevor (see previous posts), i. e. not OTL.

Harman Kardon Power Amp Citation Twelve (Citation 12)
Harman Kardon power amp Citation Twelve (Citation 12) and Citation Twelve DeLuxe uses RCA's 40636 (= selected 2N3055 with higher value for Vceo) in their quasi complelentary output buffer stage. Harman's factory number therefore is follow: "HK 43024216"
There are a lot of informations like service manual, e. g.

43024218 = 40594 RCA (2N5320, BSS42)

Harman Kardon Quadro Receiver HK-150 (HK150, Model 150)
Harman Kardon Quadro Receiver HK-150 (HK150, Model 150)
This quadro receiver model uses the same silicon power devices than the Citation Twelve (based on the 2N3055): the "HK 43024216"
The attached pics I have found by use "HK 43024216" as keyword by google.

On the web (by Google) are only vew links about this receiver, therefore I think, it's a rare model.

Good Question. The only way to find out this is checking all databooks and application notes from RCA arround 1963 (between 1960 and 1970). I have heard also from RCA cross ref. lists 40xxx - 2Nxxxx.

Südfunk (Quelle Universum) "V 716" (V716) Schematic needed
I need a schematic of follow integrated amp with quasi complementary output stage (2x2N3055/ch) and high pass couple capacitor (4.700uF/25V WIMA) between buffer out and speaker terminal:
Model No "V716" (V 716)
the manufacturer was Südfunk-Apparatebau Dr. Ing. Robert Ott
the device from me is branded with "Südfunk" (silver front panel)
the devices from the attached images are branded with "Universum" (special made for the German biggest mail order house at those days, - "QUELLE") That design was in black for the front panel.
There are only German informations on the web:

Yes; check out schematics by post #54 and #80 (btw - I read "AD140" there). The early Leak stereo 30's used AD149's.
Do you know, in which year the germanium type was replaced through the silicon BjT "2N3055" ??
Oops, yes could be my mistake, could well have been AD140's, but don't know the year of the changeover.
First commercial advertisement from RCA still wanted.Who can post the first commercial advertisement (announcement) from formerly's brand RCA (from any electronic magazine published in the early sixties) concerning the 2N3055 and the first RCA application notes?
At which time was exactly launched the production?
I note, that the German brand Siemens launched the same type under the type number "BD130" in the seventies - unfortunately I don't find original datasheet online:
BD130 datasheet pdf datenblatt - Comset Semiconductor - NPN SILICON TRANSISTOR POWER LINERAR AND SWITCHING APPLICATIONS ::: ALLDATASHEET :::
