10" Two way, Seas A26 alternatives

When I model the B102 in a 48L cabinet the best I could muster is 62Hz. How is Eminence getting 54Hz? Could they be modeling the older spec driver?

I modified my 42L cab to be 48L over the weekend. I am heavily leaning in the direction of the B102 as my 10" driver for this cabinet and excited about the various tweeter options afforded by its extended response - although I'm starting with 1.6k and a compression driver. The Morel looks like a cool option too.

its not like one's losing a big chunk of a 12 note scale

here's the old B102 vs the "new" B102 in a Druid size pipe - I used to have graphs outdoors
with the old B102 - i may have had levels set too high as normally don't use pink noise.

The BP102 is an excellent hi fi woofer candidate that is often overlooked.

It does every thing the Seas does and better at half the price. All you need to do is add a series 1.2 - 1.5 mh series inductor and you have a perfect 18 db/octave roll off starting at 2K. And the BP is DEAD flat below 2K and near zero break up above 2K.

And, with 1.5 + times the Xmax it can play louder and with way more dynamics. It is also 35% more efficient, double the power handling, much more ruggedly built and can work well in both reasonably sized ported and seal alignments. Moving mass is similar to the Seas.

If anybody is interested I can provide a couple of real world enclosure alignments that include typical RG values and what the finish product actually does in terms of f3 points and net efficiency values.

John, you left us hanging... 😀

Emi BP102

Finally getting back.... Just to clarify... my previous post concerned the Eminence BP102, NOT the B102. Very different drivers. With the BP102 being a potential substitute for the Seas 26RE4 Dynaco A25 descendant in a new 2 way design.

Looks like my notes on past efforts with this driver are no longer accessible in my old lap top.... and the one remaining BP102 I have in stock has a bent frame... courtesy of UPS...

However, I have ordered up a new pair and they should deliver late next week. Have the right size test boxes and will re-confirm performance abilities.

Did find some of my previous 2 way crossover notes using various H.F. drivers. Want to also try a new horn load silk dome I now have. Should be interesting.

that will be fun to hear more about BP102 and horn loading the silk dome (which tweeter?) With the help of member Sonce for xover work, I'm piddling with B102 and an older APT150 tweeter. I'll work on the highpass again tonight to level the somewhat hot tweeter.

I can hardly wait John. Too bad about the damaged BP102.

In the mean time, I slapped together a pair of towers with a BP102 and a D220TI driver and Pyle waveguide (JBL clone). Hooked it up to the Zilch/JackGiff low sensitivity generic X/O. Cabinet is 12"(W) X 13"(D) X 34"(H) about 2.3 c.f. with a 4" X 7" port. It sounds better than I expected. It will need some tweaking of course.

Boy John, you were right on about this. I just tried it with a 1.5 mh inductor in series. Here's what I get...

Will you build in the waveguides or leave them mostly open kec? The speakers look seriously fun. Would closing them in would help or hinder?

There are good looking A26 kits at Solen Canada. However they replaced pictures with a graphic for some reason. I have originals I found at a yard sale, found the kits while looking for parts, some of mine are missing. My guess someone had intentions of rebuilding and never got back to them.
